Title: Plunger shroud idea
Post by: Greybeard on 12.07. 2016 09:16
I'm fitting new plunger spring shrouds, bought from Priory Magneto's. The outgoing chrome shrouds show wear on the chrome from the outer shrouds rubbing. I'm thinking of gluing thin plastic, cut from an old milk bottle inside the painted shrouds to make a spacer. What do you think about this idea?

It would need to be good glue! Aren't the shrouds slightly belled out at the ends to stop the visible parts being able to rub on the outer shroud? Hope that makes sense....

I also wonder about the glue holding slippery plastic in place but if the liner comes loose I should be able to remove it.

I hadn't noticed, but yes the new shrouds are slightly flared out. The old ones, which I thought are the originals are not flared. Veerry interesting!

Take pleasure from the amount of riding you will be doing, as the chrome skuffs off!

(or fit stainless shrouds instead)

I'd buy stainless if I could find some.

I wouldn't do that. Sand and road dust would get trapped in between and make it even worse.
An idea just crossed my mind: Maybe stretch the outer covers a bit with a pipe expander ?
