Title: Addition to the stable
Post by: bobandbec on 12.07. 2016 16:18
Hi
Committed a cardinal sin. Have ordered a new Triumph Street Twin to be delivered in September to add to the A10, A65 and A50.
Anybody willing to admit to owning one as well? Have only had one test ride but was very enjoyable with a lot of torque at relatively low revs.
It won't beat the BSA's for star quality but at least I won't have to kick it. My knees are hurting.
The BSA's will be for special rides and the new one for any day to day riding.
I apologise for using the T word.
Peter

Hadn’t heard on such a thing before – Street Twin that is. Googled pics look well enough. I had a ’99 Speed Triple some time back, bought primarily because I liked that shade of green. Went OK once I’d realised you had to ring its neck (I’d stepped across from a Bandit 12). My modern now is a ZRX1200, also in green. Not really an engaging ride, but press the button and cross a continent.

Congrats, looking great > http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2015/12/article/2016-triumph-street-twin-first-ride-review/

Spent 10 years with a 900 Legend.

Thruxton R 1200 here, liking it a lot. Monstrous torque at low to mid rpm, light nimble machine.

I wonder how they managed to spend that much on it. They come with high end Ohlins and Show a Big piston USD forks, Brembo brakes, would be a shame to do away with any of that.. all one needs to do is adjust the suspension to suit the rider.
Out of the box, it out handles anything in my little fleet by a mile.
Maybe they were playing with the standard 1200 Thrux, it comes with econo components.

A BMW riding buddy tried this R in the mountains and declared "That's cheating!"

I must admit there isn’t a single new motorcycle which I hanker for at all. I don’t want fuel injection or a digital display on my clocks. My ZRX might look distinctly modern but has carbs and a proper analogue rev counter and even a speedo with tumblers for the odo and trip.

All of which limits the choice somewhat I guess.

Triumph knows that us old guys like analog gauges and a nice looking polished alloy fork crown. Crafty devils

It will be nice to be able to press a button and go.
But it will never replace the character of my A's especially the tattiest most unreliable one, my A65. When it's going it's a joy to ride. But it still needs a lot of work before I can rely upon it.
New bikes, old bikes, different animals. But I can enjoy the best in both I hope. Everyone to their own I suppose.

I have fun on any bike, from a 50cc minimoto to a 124" HD. My '51 A7 will go to the grave with me, a modern bike will probably get me there  *roll*

I had been seriously considering the Norton 961 for quite some time. After monitoring the 961 forum and seeing the horror show that was going on trying to keep those bikes functioning, my interest in the Norton waned.
Then Triumph came out with their 1200 six speed Thruxton R and it had the Norton beat everywhere, power, handling, weight, vibration levels, price and the expectation of reliability.
So far it is even better than I had hoped.
Mounted the fairing a couple of days ago. 96 parts and 22 pages of instructions but everything fit and I think the styling is superb.
