Title: Frame No location for 1955 A7SS
Post by: tommo903 on 10.08. 2016 11:32
I know this has probably asked many times before by the 'new boy', but I need to know exactly where the frame no. is located please. I know it's on the LHS downtube, but how close to the bottom of the headstock? Also, is it facing outwards?
The reason I ask is that the bike I've looked at to buy has been powder coated with the dark green colour and the only way I will know if the frame no is correct is to remove the smallest amount of powder coat possible...and try to touch it back in afterwards. It would be good if could start removing the stuff in the right place!

Thanks,
Steve

G'day tommo.
Left side of the steering head.
Cheers

Not quite right, Musky.
The number is on the right side on my four pre 1960 frames.

Thanks Musky and Trev.
Since asking that question yesterday, the owner contacted me last night and said that he can see part of the frame number through the powder coat...and it's on the right hand side of the headstock.
Sometime ago, I bought one of the so called 'expert buying guide' books for the A7/A10 and it says the frame no. is on the left hand downtube, near the headstock...obviously, some of the info is not totally trustworthy!

Well in Musko's defence my Plunger nG-FR's number is on the 'other right'  side of the headstock *good3* (don't worry, I often have to use those terms in daily work life *eek*)
