If only half of the forum membership would contribute $5 each to DGR through one of the forum teams (anonymously, if you choose), as a group we would have contributed over $2,000. If you are worried that the money doesn't get to the right place you can read the financial information on the DGR and Movember Foundation sites. As I read it, 70% goes directly to prostate health and suicide prevention. If you are over 50 and have a prostate, you might want to consider this a worthy cause (and a fun ride, if you can make it).

Cambridge is 92 miles from me, where Oxford is 45 so I don't think I'll join you.
Come on chaps, I'm sure you don't have to don fancy dress, just come to keep me company, (and donate a few quid).
Speaking of fancy dress, I've bought a pair of knee length breeches and long golfers socks. I'll wear my brown leather brouges. I've also bought a nearly new genuine Harris Tweed sports jacket. I'm thinking of a cravat, or maybe a bow tie. I may well look a proper prat but I don't mind, it's all for fun *smile*. I'll post a picture when I'm ready.

I am going to try and get my local VMCC section to link the planned ride on the 25th Sept to this, so I will be riding but locally. Sorry Greybeard Oxford is a long way, could do Cambridge but if the section agree then there will be 15 to 20 of us.
I tried to donate to the team Greybeard's in(sorry topdad) but it only allowed a donation in dollars did it anyway but it has not appeared yet will give it till tomorrow and if still not there then will try again.

Yes, that puzzled me. I thought I'd donated 20UKP but Paypal only showed a figure of about 15; I later realised that the donation was in US Dollars.

...and maybe everyone can sign into one or the other forum teams. Any contribution under your own name is then ascribed to the team as well. Contributions made directly to a team do not go toward any rider's prize possibilities (which is a good thing).

Yes you were right I will be riding my 1954 s/a A10 in the Hawkes Bay Napier ride.
I have just added a B31 to my collection so now have a 1954 C10L, 1954 B 31, 1951 B33, & 1954 A10
My Son has pinched my 1986 BMW R80RT so that saves the problem of which side the brake & gears are

Thanks for responding to my PM. Assume you will join one of the teams. I envy the collection. At the end of our respective rides, I am suggesting we all hoist one to the cause and one to the forum (then wait a while before riding home). We will just have to act as if there is not a gap of time and place between us.

My friends, what is the hang-up? Have you some big events on your calendars for September 25th that have been there for months? Are you hiding your bikes away so that the unwashed masses will not see them? Will you perish if out while the sun is up? Is the thrift store near you out of tweed or bow ties (or whatever your style might be)? Do you blanch and lose motor control at the word "prostate"? If none of these or other good reasons apply, why not join your local ride? Donations to the cause are optional.

Apologies if I am starting to sound testy in this, but our paltry showing in this significant event has me completely baffled. Please remember that, in terms of prizes offered, no one team member benefits from the contributions of other team members. Who buys the Guinness is a completely separate issue.

I think the apparent lack of interest may just be that members don't read every post. They have a particular issue/problem/solution etc. and don't have any interest in general day-to-day forum discussions.
Erling or Musky could send out a forum bulletin if they feel that the matter warrants that action, so everyone gets a message, as they did for the tee-shirt poll.
If members ignore a bulletin then we can truly feel dissapointed! *conf*

Very true and good point. On the other hand, by my count, approximately 35 members have posted to the forum since Sunday and I must guess that many of them (some already riding or contributing) read the posts. I couldn't look back as far as 16 August to get an idea of the number of posters since then (when you first mentioned DGR), but I would guess it is a lot more. This may be another to look at it: right now there are 267 users online (219 not logged in) with 341 being the most online today. By these numbers, even with selective attention, our DGR participation still seems too light.

I have twice now tried to join the team (although riding locally in suffolk), I do find the website hard to navigate and I am supposed to be a techie. If it has not worked this time I give up but will be riding on the 25th.
Others could be suffering the same frustration

Firstly my apologises for being late posting this but on Sunday I was without internet after my ipad went u/s and yesterday SWMBO had an appointment to sort her eyes ,cataracts , so was hors de combat for the day.
The Liverpool run ,strangely, started across the river Mersey in Eastham village *dunno* at the " tap room" . I enjoyed a fine quick run and having left at 9am got there via the old Mersey tunnel 9-30 am the bike never missed a beat and made a fine sound in the tunnel ,I'd drained and refilled the front forks with the correct amount of oil and what a difference absolutely spot on handling and had a stupid grin on my face and a cuppa in my hand by 9-30am.
It was all very easy going ,sadly lacking in classics, 2 old RE 500's ,a royal Star ,2 Honda 500 4'S and mine were it ,although they got looked at far more than the newer stuff !!
On the instruction " Gentlemen start your engines " we were off at a very sedate rate and we raised more than a few smiles going through the village with car drivers giving way on 2 junctions ! A short hop to Raby of about 8 miles brought to a pub where some more joined ,just before this my gear change return spring went ping ,lever stuck and I pulled up at the pub thinking the ride was over b4 it had started ,fortuneatly a bit of twiddling got it free and I was able to continue going down fine upwards needed the lever raising after 2nd but kept up ,we passed clatterbridge hosp the biggest cancer hosp in the area and went into Birkenhead and again used the old tunnel to central Liverpool down dale st to the Strand and our first stop at the Albert dock ,we had to ride through the dock which was full of tourists and lots of pictures were taken to our area just by the river ,here we were approached by lots of people who wanted to know what was going on ,I struck up a conversation with a guy from Nevada who had just got an A10 but was having trouble with the clutch , finding out it was a 6 springer my fix involved throwing it into a bin and buying a Triumph or SRM unit , He was convinced we were all mad and thought we rode every day in DJ's and or tweeds etc once we'd explained he was a little more convinced of our sanity ! We may have a new member.
We had to move after 30 mins as we were in front of the building housing the Labour conference but the Police were great one of 'em is a biker and will be joining us next year, I will post a picture, lots , tomorrow including the copper with "thumbs up ".
We moved to the rear ,riverside , of the Liver buildings for a final chat and group picture which was arranged with the help of a passing tourist ,very helpful. I decided that I wasn't pushing my luck by going back to the tap run so after passing on my thanks to the guy who did the organising and collecting numbers for the pictures I was off .
I must confess as to not being in tweed or DJ's as were the Triumph/Harley group simply with an eye to the weather and the fact I don't bounce as well as when younger I had my normal coat on ,but with smart shirt and tie plus a new pair of grey cords PLUS polished boots !! made me feel I'd entered into the spirit of the event which I will be doing next year .The wonderful bike was much admired by riders and civilians alike and I really got a buzz from it but the event needs some polishing including some advertising ie local papers and local TV news ,61 riders started plus a few more on the run ,no injuries or problems so far this ride as raised well over £3000 and increasing ,personal amount £110 in the forum team £10 personal with abit more to come ,thanks to anyone who kindly donated something from the forum ,DGR as a bloody useless website my Son's tried 3 times to donate still nothing taken .Hope this hasn't been to boring for everyone cheers, Bob

Yeah had a pleasantly sunny ride after some earlier cloud cover - no rain. And the Nimbus is pleasingly non leaky, whilst being steady enough that any flies you hit can pick themselves up and continue on their way.

Hello all,
After the strip-down to re-shim the crank that took place starting two Saturday's before the ride, I did the post-shimming test ride at 9:00 PM on the 24th. (Must inject here that I have corrected the typo that said "teat ride".) As I've mentioned, started first kick, so I was feeling good. I had not dismantled the timing case. On the test ride my suspicion that I might have adjusted the clutch with too light a grip was immediately confirmed. Slipping was obvious but ease into neutral and clunk-free entry into first was great. [I had set the clutch with a dial indicator after tearing my hair out (in addition to some grinding and pounding of clutch parts) trying to figure out why my 6-spring clutch basket suddenly no longer fit on the hub. Oh, the things that can be forgotten between builds! Turned out I missed the fact that the chain wheel was slipping over the first row of ball bearings but not the second.] Anyway, I decided I had to do the ride with the amount of slippage that was there.
Moving on to departing home on DGR-Day, bike again started first kick, wife took some pics and I was on my way. On surface streets the slipping clutch was not a big problem, but the Interstate Highway was a challenge to ease up to 55 MPH while having to accelerate at imperceptible increments. I made it the 30 miles into Chicago, missing my turn-off in the city and getting a little bonus ride on Michigan Ave. (The Miracle Mile) for my mistake. No problem, I had left plenty of time to get to the start point. I should point out that this was the first time I have actually ridden in the city of Chicago since finishing the restoration in 2007.
Now, at the start point, I arrived to hundreds of parked bikes, too many to look at each one. There were a couple of A65s but no other A7s or A10s (as far as I saw). All was good. I enjoyed a big buffet breakfast for a mere $8.00. Things changed when it came time to take off for the ride. I went to kick over and nothing. Compression felt mushy. Kicked and kicked and nothing. Further, when you're having trouble starting, hearing what's happening is important. Of course, I could not hear anything over all the other bikes. 400 bikes left and I was still kicking. With everyone gone, a couple of guys offered to give me a push. Uhhh, great, but the lack of a decent clutch made that useless. I finally got her to start up. There was one guy there who had arrived late and we left together to try to catch up with the pack, which we did at the halfway beer stop. I bought the beer, thankful for having someone to ride with who had a GPS. Being pretty sure I would again have trouble starting, I made a point of doing it when I thought it was 10 minutes before departure from the way point. Yep, it was tough, but I got her going, however, it turned out it was actually going to be about 30 minutes before departure. Not wanting to shut down again, I cruised around that part of Chicago for a while to kill time and see that area I had not seen before. When back at the stop I idled a while and got quite a bit of appreciation for my bike (Ahhh yes! It was all worthwhile.) When we finally left the stop it was exciting to ride with such a pack that was not wearing wallets with chains and tattered denim vests, as is the case when I go on the mostly Harley rides. Surprisingly, I ended up riding aside my new buddy from the first leg.
Arriving at the end point, I was immediately greeted by my daughter and her friend who, together, had recently taken an apartment in Chicago not too far away from the bar. That was a extreme high point. I also met one of the guys on an A65 who does not live far from me. We exchanged info and may ride together some time. After lunch with my daughter and a beer raised in honor of my extreme thirst and my forum teammates, I knew I was again facing the tough start, but confident it would eventually get going. The ride home (another 30 miles, of course) was another study in nursing the slipping clutch but I made it. WHEW!
Despite or because of all of the above, I had a great time and definitely plan to participate next year. Between the two forum teams we did manage to raise a bit more than the $1000 goal I had set. Great efforts and generosity on the part of the teams and sponsors! I sorta doubt that many members who did not ride have read this far in a long story. If you did not ride, you missed out and should try to join-in next year.
So, yesterday I got to wondering about the mushy compression and very hard starting. I've not completely confirmed it yet, but I think my right cylinder may have ridiculously low compression. I probably did not pick up on the impact of this on performance since the clutch did not allow use of serious power. I have suspicions why, but for another post.

Rather than modify the long story, I want to add that the ride through Chicago involved going through many red lights and stop signs while the escort riders held traffic. I don't know if this was pre-approved or winked at by Chicago police. Before we set off on the ride, stickers were handed out for covering a couple of numbers on our license plates so that tickets would not be automatically issued for intersections with red-light photo monitoring.

Thank you. That is my real moustache. I've been training it long and wide for the last month in prep for the dapper criteria. I've been with my wife for 35 years and she has never seen me without a moustache. Should I run up to the bathroom and shave it off right now? No promises.

I imagine he was the chap that rode on the pavement.
The marshalls undoubtedly had a hard job but blocking non DGR traffic at junctions and even pedestrian crossings without any authority or even a hi-viz waistcoat is a bit dodgy in my opinion and riding on the footway is not good.
I'm not sure I'll go to the Oxford DGR next year; I'll probably try Coventry which is much closer for me.

Nothing too dramatic in the replies to get up about, me thinks. Our marshals were substantially better riders than I, so their fast exploits up and down the streets and, yes, a little on one sidewalk I saw, did not raise my concern.

It's interesting how different ride organisers seem to have either interpreted the rules differently or made up their own. I'd have to say that the organisation for the Cambridge ride was exemplary. We had a good clear briefing, in which we were advised that the ride leaders/guides had no authority to direct traffic, they were introduced to us and had a very specific type of fluorescent jacket that was easily identifiable out on the run. Good stuff, by my book.

I agree we were given no instructions at all. I got the feeling it was organised b y a small group who did it last year and were a little surprised at the number of people who turned up , I blame *whistle* that Richard in the US *smile* *smile* *clap* . They were very friendly and once completed when chatting I was told that there were quite a lot on constraints placed upon the organisers .
Next year they will change the route and way it's organised. they have a facebook page which I'm going to see if I can get some pictures and a couple of videos onto here .

Just wondered if anyone has tried pre-registering for the DGR yet? I have (twice in fact) but haven't received any email confirmation to say I've pre-registered. Any idea when the 'proper' registration starts?
By the way, I'm hoping to ride either the London or Oxford event.

I think GB did the Oxford run out last year.
I did London a couple of years ago on my A10; it was a warm day and the traffic was inevitably bad. My all iron engine got to warm my calves more than a little (downside of wearing plus 4s perhaps) but the bike stayed a good un. Last year I did Cambridge on my Nimbus and the traffic was much worse there. That bike is a real big lump of iron, and got a bit snotty, but kept running.
I have a clash this year with a Sunbeam Club rally, but the ‘Beam is in disgrace at the moment so we’ll see. I’ll certainly put off pre registering for now. I was wondering about using my
H1 Kawa and going with some loon flares and tie and die top – keeping it all in period but would that be distinguished enough?

I may do the Coventry DGR this year. I wasn't very happy with certain aspects of the Oxford ride. Coventry is much closer to me than Oxford. I just hope the ride isn't around the hideous Coventry inner ring road.

Not registered yet and again we have a club ride to BattleBridge (essex), that day so I will combine the two as Cambridge was the nearest last year and that did not look or sound like fun. I hope I will not be the only one this year. Any one else in that area what to join the ride or meet there, they are more then welcome.

If you have issues with the route, I believe you could contact the leader of the particular ride to make suggestions. To get the contact information for a specific ride leader you could write to Mark Hawwa (the founder of the DGR) at [email protected].

I just did the search (magnifying glass at top of page) using "BSA" and it's there in the resulting list. Like last year, I've requested the ride name for the team be changed to "Worldwide Ride" rather than "Chicago Ride". Also, I don't know why there is a lowerecase "a" in the name, but that is trivial.

sorry, I am an IT guy I work on IT applications for complex tasks that users tell me are easy to use, and to me this website is a joke. I nearly gave up last year it should not be this hard.
So I have logged in, I think nothing to tell you that you have and it asks you to register for a ride, can not see BSAA7A10forum so use search find it click on it and get a popup that has Albany NY as the default, no I think and there is no reference to BSA's. Then I search again and try the sponsor link and then the ride with us link and again same popup with Albany.
I think just to ensure anyone who would like to ride on the day and sponsor via the group it would be good to have some step by step instructions by someone more patient then me. I will try again 'when' the name is changed to worldwide or something defiantly identifiable.

Yep, it's pretty convoluted. I will make no excuses for it other than saying it is probably providing gainful employment for one of the organizers' relatives. I hope everyone finds their way in and will participate in the ride. As for the organizers themselves, Mark and Mikey, my dealings with them have been very good and they seem like great guys.

To All other members. You don't have to ride on one of the organised events although that could be fun. You don't have to contribute although every little helps. You don't even have to dress up in silly cloths, although that helps raise the profile of the event and is another way of giving.
My nearest official ride is 70 miles away via dual carriageway and more by the roads I enjoy riding so I am doing it locally on a VMCC section run. I will dress up again this year even though last year I was the only one on the ride and got a lot of teasing about it.
The point is sign up and ride your bike on this day, just shear volume of numbers keeps the corporate sponsors happy and again just riding is another way of giving +++ its fun *smile*

Yep took me a while found help online that talked about a dashboard, but no link to it. Then to the left there is a menu and on one of the options either the account or rider profile there is an option to upload a picture. Think I am slowly becoming an expert now *smile*

I’d imagine that the problem lies behind the fact that proper web site design and construction don’t come cheap, and there are probably a lot of graphics type graduates who think they know what’s what. I think it’s pretty easy as a user to see quite quickly what is wrong with a web site – and for sure there is plenty of lousy stuff out there, but designing something good might be a whole bunch harder.
Better that we have to deal with a half Rsed web site and more of the donations go to the cause I’d suggest.

Just got home. What a great day. The Cafe pinged all the way. I'd thought about colder plugs last night due to the heat and slow riding. Bugga. All that followed commented on the ex note and smell of R30. The Ulladulla ride had about 60 bikes and raised $20+K. Pics when I can upload.

I'll be setting off soon. The start point of the Coventry ride is the Triumph factory at Hinkley. The route includes the Coventry ring road. That road is not somewhere I'd choose to ride; there are combined entry/exits with quite short ramps. Not ideal for a bike without indicators!

Really good weather, unlike last year.
Must have been 200 bikes and a fair number of scooters gathered at theTriumph factory at Hinkley for two different DGR rides. There was a fantastically well done chopperised scooter; looked pretty silly being ridden though! Classics apart from mine were three Vincents, a Velocettel, AJS, Ariel, post war Triumphs and a flat tank belt drive Triumph. There was a lovely red flat head Harley Davidson that was in concourse condition. Next to the rear wheel there was a gizmo with a meshed grill that was operated by a small foot pedal. I can only think that this was a siren that used the back tyre to spin the mechanism. So bike may have been a fire chiefs steed. Anyone seen one of those? We parked up in front of the Coventry Transport Museum where many photo's were taken. When I see some I'll put a link here.

A very un-distinguished gentleman, sort of rode.
A7 away at my sons, A10 bald back tyre, so the Norton it was. Going to meet up with a VMCC run and spot something yellow inside my crash helmet. Then the huge yellow and black bugger crawls across the inside of my visor. The Norton can stop quite quickly and the side stand can be deployed rapidly helmet off and thrown in hedge. hissy fit over, retrieve Helmet but the dam bike will not start and the carb start poring petrol out again. So I missed all the rides I could have attended, and got home very hot and bothered. I did ride about 25 miles so I hope that counts.

Had a very pleasant ride with a bunch of more than 200 riders... but only a handful oldies, only three bsa, a sloper, a Goldstar an my GF. Picture from the stop at the Swiss museum of Transport.

I was one of the few to ride an oldie (not a BSA) in the Solent Run, but at least the weather was great! A couple of Bantams, a B31 and a trials TriBsa was the only BSA connection.

We had a good run out in glorious weather in Cambridge. It was a better route this year and very well marshalled. Saw a number of A10s there including one with a chair. I suppose there must have been 2-300 bikes at least, and a lot of interesting stuff in the mix. An awful lot of Hinkley Bonnevilles derivatives mind.
I completed the route on my Kawa H1 stroker smoker. The ride in plus the ride round made 63 miles, for 11.5 litres fuel. 25mpg (UK).

It stayed dry! Only 2 classics, 1 Enfield Clipper, my A10. Lots of Harleys and some painfully loud exhausts. Perhaps not the best way to endear ourselves to the public. A good ride through Edinburgh nonetheless.

No bloody PC at home so had to wait for BT to reconnect our office. Very enjoyable ride yesterday on the Liverpool ride , about 100 bikes classics very thin my A10 , 4 enfields (to oldies ) a Sterling ( a flat tank lookalike ) which ran well some nice Ducatis and a good turn out of Harleys etc .
Ride was f**ked up by Liverpool city council who ran a city pushbike /race event and closed roads without much notice .Infact the carpark on the Albert dock who had kindly arranged free space for us as per last year ,weren't even inform that the roads were closing ,as we couldn't get there at all a comprimise was found by the old Higsons Brewery .The route involved going through the heavyest traffic I've ridden for a long time however drivers were helpful pulling over and even blocking junctions to allow us to cross as a group ,no accidents but the bikes did get lost .Clutch took a pasting and boy the oil tank was so so hot . Not sure of the figure raised yet but I've got about £200 to come in plus any more I can wring from people/companies! Pictures later.
As an aside I decided ,on the way back home to go past where my bike originated from in Liverpool my old employers Victor Horsman ltd , paid my respects to St lukes , the "bombed out" church which was left as a reminder of the May Blitz , down Renshaw st ,had to turn up a side road, it was a shambles the whole road boarded up, looks ready to be knocked down , so disheartening *sad* *sad*

This event was a first for me and I did the Oxford ride and a great day out it was! The weather helped of course, although bit chilly early on for the 40 mile ride to get to the start. I think just under 500 had registered and judging by the parking area, everyone had turned up, possibly more as well.
The marshalling was excellent, especially in the city centre where it became pretty congested in places. It was a great spectacle for locals and tourists as well, most seemed to love the noise and sight of all the bikes, although on a couple of occasions, I did notice women with hands pressed tightly to their ears! *smile*
Huge mix of bikes but not too many BSAs from what I could see...although tbh, didn't spend ages wandering round. The pic is me at the start.

Well the DGR has come and gone for this year hope you all had a good ride for such a worthy cause, our DGR here in Busselton West Australia when well considering the weather, it was forecast for rain and thunder storms, and it looked very bleak first thing in the morning.
50 of the 70 or so signed up for the ride turned up so that was pretty good considering.
As it turned out we got very little rain. Just a few drops on the way home.
I’m adding a few picks that I took, you can just see my A10 just about centre of the photo with all the bikes it has the silver helmet hanging on the mirror, the picks were taken at our stop at Dunsborough for coffee.

Well, the 2017 DGR is in the books. Included below are links to the video of my ride in two parts. Not sure if they are in the right order. All together it's around an hour. There is some plessant riding along Chicago's Lake Shore Drive and also more than enough riding in dowtown Chicago amongst traffic of four or five hundred other bikes. There were a total of two BSAs, the other a C12, which appesrs briefly in Part 2 when I call out to "Josh."
Ride went great, mostly. Stalled just before departure, then, difficult restart with visions of last year when 400 bikes left before I could restart, but I ended up undelayed.
After the ride, on the way home (at 50 mph), my left hand cramped up to where it would not open to work the clutch, but for my index and little fingers. Had to use my teeth to pry open the middle two fingers so I could pull to the shoulder to relax the hand.
That night, after midnight, I went into the garage to turn off the light and smelled gas. Yep, puddle under the bike. Flashlight out and on my knees, found the area where the tank was leaking. "Fortunately," just before getting home I filled the tank. Fortunately (for real), the tubing I had for syphoning was clear, so I didn't get a nightcap of gas while sucking on the tube. Turns out the butt end of the tank abraided against the frame where it splits out under the seat. At first I thought the tank seam had worn through on the head-steady bolt protruding too far. Learned different today. Caswells sealer has arrivred.
Hope the rest of the team had a good time on your rides. As for the rest of you, now you can watch the videos and say, "Crikey, why would I put myself through that?", if that's how you feel, itherwise the videos can be used like a screen saver.

Three states have no helmet law of any kind. Illionois is one of them, however, I was wearing a helmet, but no gloves.

I dressed up and joined the ride in Northampton, England, with 111 like-minded souls, and had an absolute whale of a time. A very enjoyable trip out, and everybody we saw was waving or tooting their horns. My '55 Golden Flash performed perfectly, and the crowd were great fun. Might take my sister along next year, and her husband and lad. Great day out.

Cureently it says "Chicago Ride," but I've requested that be changed to "World-Wide Rides." Having established a bit of relationship with the ride admin, along with thanking them, I had to admit that our 1000+ membership is underrepresented. I've come to understand and accept that that's just the way it is, despite our urgings.
Finally, I've noticed that you can no longer view the details of a ride unless you are signed up for it. This takes some if the fun and, I think, community out of it. Regardless, I expect the ride and after-party to be a good time.

Happy to contribute regardless but I'll only ride if the weather is fine. I like the dressing up bit best so there's no point if waterproofs are required.

I think I have found it the ride and the team appear to be different things so, you can register for a ride and join a different team. To join the forum team find the forum DGR page https://www.gentlemansride.com/team/bsaaa0forum (https://www.gentlemansride.com/team/bsaaa0forum) and press the ‘join our team’ button.
I then checked on the dashboard page that the ride and the team looked OK.

I'd imagine they use a web hosting company for the site. Like forum sites there's some brilliant (like this one) and others you give up on due to difficult navigation. I persevere only because of the Cause. My nephew committed suicide at the age of 26.

Hi Sav, I rode last year on a standard VMCC run and registered on the forum team and ride. I was the only one and dressed up so took a bit a ribbing, but it gave them something to talk about and made them aware of the DGR and so its on the events list for this year. Hopefully I will not be on my own.

Time is running out gentlemen. Join your local Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride. If you can, contribute to the worthy cause of raising funds for prostate cancer research (yours isn't getting any smaller) and men's suicide prevention. Several (11, I think) members have already signed up, but really, with over 1000 members, we should be much better represented. I think I'm a bit embarrassed for myself and others here whose suggestions to join have raised so little enthusiasm.

I registered in the Portland Oregon ride... I got my bike running good, and just did a long ride to the Cannonball run and back, Will try and get something vintage running to add style points, But at least I can participate on 2 wheels.
What is shameful how many locals on my ride, have not raised a penny. (SLACKERS!, Punters, Pillow biters!)
Last year I think I raised over $200?? Ill have to look! Ill be campaigning heavily in the interim, But last year many from a veterans forum kicked in a few $$$$.
Maybe someone or 3 can kick in a few bucks so I dont look like a slacker??

Can I join the BSA Riding group even though likely I would be the only one in my area?? I doubt I will have a road ready BSA by the ride time and project bikes wont cut it.
The local ride is over 2 hrs long but all city riding. (lots of stop & Go) and they want the details kept quiet but I CAN say it starts at 2 stroke Coffee shop in Portland.

Done, Im signed up with the BSA forum team. I am going to be sending out tons of requests for donors so, trying to get all my badges filled in. I also donated to others, and donated to myself so I have at least some money on my dashboard despite not having a lot of money at the moment.
I think its shameful as I said already so many sign up but dont raise any money. Even a few dollars makes a difference.
I have a long time friend who died last winter from Prostate cancer. At first he thought it was a bladder infection, being stubborn as many of us are,, he put it off. His cancer was very aggressive and in 3 weeks he was dead. Im already running on second chances and a miracle I survived my injuries in 2013, So I dont take anything for granted and pleased every day I live another.

Well, always next year, "A man without a plan has no future".. However if its distance to the closest ride register and form your own ride. (Easy to do, and likely you have a route you can pencil out) You CAN of course register and raise money and not actually ride, and thats cool as well, although less exciting, but at least you are being proactive for raising money. The ride is more of a promotional and celebratory event, Its the money raised that is key.
We have a massive toy drive locally with bikers I have been attending most years for 30 some years, even when it snowed, But the toys are largely symbolic as we actually collect so many gifts and toys the hospital crates it up and shares with other hospitals.
However its the MONEY raised that does the real good. It funds wheelchairs, artificial limbs, and medical devices for kids. If a kid falls thru the cracks, the biker fund steps in and helps out. THAT is where the tire meets the road. Usually a $80k to $100,000 per year. Shriners childrens hospital in PDX Oregon.
The toys are cool & all,, but symbolic at this point.
Last year I registered and raised a few hundred from people I pestered and cajoled, and again, NONE goes in the riders pocket. However I got sick again so I attended the event but did not actually ride. My health is better this year so RIDE I SHALL.
But publicity is always welcome,. Please do, multiple posts on whatever media you can.
I had an idea.. I am going to gather up some cool Motorcycle stuff I have and run a personal raffle,,,Every person that donates to my profile gets their name in a drawing to win some cool MC parts, stickers, hat, Shirts etc.. looking for what I can put together. Maybe consider this yourselves and offer up a GIFT certificate for X amount of $$$$$ and every donation to your profile gets their name in a hat... Draw the name on day of ride, Someone wins the gift certificate. I know you guys are on multiple forums and it would build some interest.
See?? There IS something you can do right now!

At the moment there are 1040 forum members. Online currently there are 158 guests and 55 members. My calculations make the ratio of forum members to DGR team members 1.34%!
If you are reading this, please make the effort to sign up to DGR, preferably to our virtual forum team. All that is needed from you is some kind of monetary contribution to the DGR charity and in return, if you wish you can ride your motorbike on Sunday morning, either on your own or with an organised event local to you. If you feel like it, you can dandify yourself, as the ride is intended for Distinguished Gentlemen. Many women take part in the rides as well, often with false moustachios! However, that is not necessary.

I've let them know on the FB page as I feel it is a safety issue... one needs to know where they are heading. I always like to plan my journey rather than blindly riding along following the leader in front.... taking into junctions etc.

In my twenties, I used to be mistaken for a bloke in The Small Faces or Godber from Porridge. Later I was George Best. One evening a rather drunk chap came out of a pub, saw me and wanted to give George Best cuddles. I was not drunk so the intimacy was scary!
Luckily I've managed to avoid Georges health issues.

Yep ,totally agree ,ran off a full map with directions from my ride and am very pleased with it , a fair bit of effort as been put in to run it around and then back threw Liverpool, only problem we end up next to the arena where the Labour conference is being held, our poor old bikes may overheat from all the hot air coming out of that place !! Only found the ride info by accident actually !.

Those who have signed up for this... do you know the local route that your riding?
Each ride has a local ride organizer/co-ordinator. And if you dont have one in your area you can sign up to put one on. Some rides have hundreds of riders and local sponsors, Some are 3 guys & German Shepard.
My local is in Portland Oregon, They DONT want the route published prior to the event, But in most locations you DO know it, just dont share it. (You have to be registered before you get the details) So, I printed off mine, but will just try to ride with a group, It is not critical to me to make the entire route as in my local case its ALL central city and in many cases very stop & go. 2.5 hrs of meandering around city streets when in actuality we have some of the nicest scenery and roads along rivers, mtns and rolling farmland in the entire Pacific NW, so not every one is keen to suck exhaust fumes in the city for hours on end. (Get my drift?)
But I anticipate it will be a grand gala before and after the ride. Bearded hipsters and millennials especially. Here in Portland, The hipster style is Gay lumberjack-Lumbersexual, Flannel, dungarees or canvas pants, Designer work boots and beards.... Ill post a pix to illustrate the popular style.
So, my point is, A chance to flaunt that style is not to be missed by many, so I anticipate a big crowd this year.
What was funny was at the Cannonball run finale last weekend, (See my post on this, watch the video) There was some very well established old school grey beards. No hipster or millennial could hold a candle to these guys, and can only aspire to be as seasoned and cool. (Patina and aged is cool right now for bikes and cars, to LOOK the same,, well not really possible. Again., Ill illustrate the difference.)

I will just like to add, I passed an important benchmark today thanks to some awesome people who sponsored me. Not one penny-cent-centavo-peso-ruble-lira goes into my pocket, However thanks to donors I am now well over $200. I DO get a patch, you have to earn these, not bought.
So, a LOT of people registered but have not raised or contributed anything, I would like to encourage folks to do so, Toot Suite.

Oh, where to start, without committing myself to an evening of typing.
LJ: I think the error you're receiving is what you get when the local organizer hasn't posted the route map. You could try contacting Mikey at DGR direct with the email [email protected] (http://[email protected]). He's pretty good about answering. Right now, it might take a day or so.
I think I've mentioned before that this is the first year they have blocked viewing routes from those not registered for the specific route you want to look at. I miss this feature. For me, it was like a little travel log to see the routes in Ho Chi Minh City or Katmandu or Prague or everywhere. I particularly liked looking at the routes forum members would ride. In some cases, I could use Google Earth to get a sense of your experiences. I just looked at my Chicago route and see that they are also advising against sharing the route. I'm comfortable saying that it heads out from the Cobra lounge and ends as far south as the Museum of Science and Industry. This is a longer and much more interesting route than the last two years. Don't know if there is a pub stop along the way this year, as there was in 2016.
About the stop-and-go in the city, for the last two years we stopped for nothing except really old folks and mothers with strollers needing to cross the street. Otherwise, we have escort riders who ride ahead and stop traffic at intersections. Not exactly like police escorted, but I think the police must know it's for a good cause and just turn their heads. Before the start of the ride we get stickers to slap on our license plates to avoid being ticketed by red light cameras. The last two years it's been about 400 bikes, this year it looks like 600.
About the money, I've suggested to the organizers two or three times that a minimum donation should be required. Obviously, they don't want to go that way. It seems I may have less pull than I wish. In any case, If the organizers are not all about a minimum, I won't break any arms if someone chooses to follow those organizers' attitude. Nevertheless, remember, your prostate is not getting any smaller or younger.
I think there will be more chat about it before Sunday, but if we don't hear from you all (I'm not from the south, so you won't get "y'all" from me), have a great ride.

Well, I have changed my ride location. Not going to do the locally arranged one as there is no planned route, I need to know. So have changed and will now be riding the Cambridge one, a lot more riders taking part and I can see a well planned route with a good regroup place, bit more riding to do but it's what it is all about, and yes I have put my donation in. Just got home. Numbers a little down on last year but still had 70 riders in our little country town ride. It's a holiday long weekend here and always busy. First of the warmer weather breaks. So didn't we raise hell with all the holiday traffic! All roundabouts, stop signs and traffic lights were blocked to allow us through on mass. A great day had by all. Now to sit back and recover.

Muskrat, Berger and Everyone in the Awake Zone,
3:00 AM here and I just finished reassembling my bike and going for a test ride. It wasn't the dynamo, but the dynamo now has a nice new greasing. Hours of disassembly and reassembly. I just rode up to the local gas station to listen to it idle. (The neighbors would be upset if I was running it very long at this hour.) Damned if I didn't forget my phone to take another video! Anyway, the noise is under the primary cover. Sitting in neutral, the noise will start while idling and mostly go away when the clutch is pulled in. It sounds like scraping ore maybe bearing failure, but it is not continuous. I don't thin it's there when riding. Anyone know what is for sure? (I know that's almost impossible.) If it would help, and people will look right away, I'd go out again to get a new recording. As it is, without knowing it's not disastrous I can't do the DGR in about 7 hours.

Had a reasonable DGR. 130 machines took part. I took some pictures before my camera decided to stop working. The morning was pretty chilly; I was glad I had put my thermal underwear on! I turned back at the halfway point as I was cold and hungry. It's really quite hard work pootling around towns at 20mph, constantly clutching/declutching, wondering if I should jump the red lights, (as many riders were) or risk losing the Peleton.
There were no other BSA's, but Norton's, one Velo and a few of old Triumphs, including, a sprung hub model.

Just back from the Cambridge UK run, absolutely fantastic day... Many dozens of people lining the streets in Cambridge centre, riding around the old Universities etc plenty of students etc. Must have been 400 or more riders easily but only three BSAs, my A10 another A10 belonging to a guy named Simon who has never heard of our forum and he has had his plunger A10 some six years! so there are still more A10s and 7s out there. The other BSA was a Royal star A60? or 65? not sure.
Now I have been boasting about just how well my A10 has performed over the last Summer, but today....sigh! she thought she'd play up a bit. No problem with starting, she just wanted to be a bit lazy on one of her cylinders and run as a single... it... whatever it was... cleared as the engine got hot, so what was that all about??
There were a few other vintage bikes... one being a very nice original Vincent single with all the patina it had collected over the years, such an honest bike! I do like to look at the wear and tear and see how parts have lasted. It was not without its own problems though, only yards from the finish it had stalled and would not start - magneto problems, as always the case, it started easily when cold, made the rider sweat though.

Great day at Bristol DGR. The organisers are top quality for the efforts they make so i can feel part of a great cause. Good ride with less in town aggro. Cities aren't great for my clutch and gearbox so was glad of an out of town extension on last year. A10 only cut out once, bless. Was a bit chilly in me tweed jacket but was good fun.

Been and done it, dam its cold. 236 riders turned up near Bury St Edmunds and we raised over £17000. Great day well organised. I was the only A there a couple of other BSA’s + a few other oldish bikes, best of the bunch an in line 4 Indian. I was shacking to much to take any pictures my self there are lots here though.

My buddy and I went along to Youle's Motorcycles in Manchester. There must have been about 500 bikes on the run to Dukes 92, local Bistro. Pictured, Me (the big bloke) still chewing my breakfast bar and my buddy, Peter, who is also the chairman of the Cheshire BSAOC Branch. An absolutely brilliant day. We were both A10 mounted and our bikes attracted quite a lot of attention as this event is not necessarily for classics.

Australia $153.24, USA $152.41, England $149.52.
My local ride came in 5th in Australia with $248.75 per rider.
Zimbabwe had one rider who raised $364 !

Just got home, The ride was great in Portland Oregon. I would have to look again but last I checked was approx 370 registered. Some might not have showed but other unregistered joined in so confident was in the ballpark. Many rides had zero funds $$$ posted, but there was some exceptional fund raisers locally.
** KEEP IN MIND THE WINDOW FOR DONATIONS STAYS OPEN FOR A BIT LONGER SO STILL CAN CRACK $6mil!!**
Only BSAs locally I saw was very patina'ed M20 Khaki green M20 single and a 68-69 A65.. But a number of new Nortons and about 4 vintage Nortons...Some vintage Triumphs and some asian,, rest all modern, some retro styled.
Got some great pictures and had a great time. More soon.. I am VERY tired, as I had a friend come to attend from out of town and between us we raised $375 last I checked, She rode pillion, But afterwards I was a tour guide and we went and showed her the local sights and dinner.
More soon. (We had AXE Throwing at our event, apparently its become very popular,, I find it interesting but very odd,, But with some many hipsters,, what can you say?)

This is an article on the Kenyan DGR..one other BSA on the ride, a 1939 M20... both BSA's made from Nairobi to Magadi and back. a total of 220 km and couple 1000 feet difference in altitude (and temperature ). The M20 puffed its way back up they escapement from the desert.. My A10 ran beautifully all the way.. I enjoyed getting it ready for the run, I enjoy the uncertainly that it it would make the run and I super appreciate all the advice and help from you all who helped make it happen..

If there's anyone reading this thread who has resisted joining the DGR (out of over 1000 members there should be, at least, a few resisters reading), Guy's pictures are a perfect explanation of why we, so emphatically, press to get more participants from the forum. Will anyone argue that Guy's pictures are not the most amazing? They show an incredible place and culture that most of us will never get to visit. Also, shows that support for the cause reaches everywhere, and it doesn't hurt that the support, in this case, is fun.

Directly behind him is me (I am pretty sure- I zoomed in but its fuzzy) If you go to the video,, initially it looks like I am raising my arm and a surfer pinky and index finger with thumb extended. But a few frames later looks like someone elses arm. I WAS waving my arm, so not sure thats MY arm,, I took a friend and she is short so you dont see her at all,,I know some of the people in that crowd so I can orientate to where people were standing.

So, we had "Betsy the Booze truck" serving beverages, and because it is Portland,, There was aromatherapy, Body energy rectification, Massages, Acupuncture, A vender giving out samples of CBD cannabis products
(no intoxication from CBD,, but it does work for anxiety and stress among other things) and Triumph had a local dealer who sponsored and ran a chase truck.
Also the venue was one of our Moto-centric bars called "2 Stroke coffee company" and there was bikes inside the place as well as Tea, Espresso and all sorts of beverages.
PLUS....... (But wait theres MORE!) We had PNW Axe throwing, which is like darts and a bit of snooker but more complicated. Plus live music from a band called "Bi**hes of the Sun" and was a
Siouxsie & the Banshees cover band.
While the band played, they shot video from the ride up on the wall which was pretty cool.
The guy with the axe was just a random guy since my friend didnt want her picture taken with the axe, I kinda think he looks like the lead character from Fargo (William Macy) and presents a nice air of madness,, mild mannered car salesperson, Axe murdering psychopath in his spare time.
I wondered if Axe throwing might progress to hunting down hipsters or lawyers? (Just a thought......)

I wasn't able to comment following my ride out on the Liverpool ride, due to being some hours later on holiday to Majorca for 14 days.
The ride was well organised and raised more than a few smiles and questions however the weather was against us , a few rain showers no problem but where we ended up on the Albert dock riverside with a gale force wind up your jacksie :o was not pleasant it also detered the tourists from venturing to the group as well ,still a job well done and heres to next year , better start getting my donations in !

Funny it should come up here, because the other day I took a different routeto my youngstas place down a street I hadn't been for a while , and just around the corner from him is a ' AXE THROWING ' Shed ....looked very busy too, with all kinda types in various cozzies ( *fight* uniforms)
brought back memories of younger days when we used to run around the bush on horses playing Davy Crockett.. *doubt*.or maybe Daniel Boone..... *conf2*....trying to split trees with whatever bladey things we could find...

I will be asking Mikey at DGR to change the location of the team ride to "Worldwide," but, as you might imagine, they may have other things to do.
I am really hoping for a change in ride status here in Chicago from solo to one of the other forms. I would probably ride anyway, because it gives me an excuse for a somewhat longer-than-usual weekend ride, but would much prefer the extravaganza (and the *beer* and spicy Ceasar salad at the end point *smile*).

The weather forecast in my part of the UK for Sunday is heavy rain. If the weather is crappo I will postpone my DGR ride until I can enjoy it. 😳

Thinking of moving mine to the Saturday? Weather may be less fierce and it's supposed to be solo anyway. Am supposed to be meeting up with some people, safely of course, but got utterly drowned riding to Devon last Sunday and not keen to repeat that experience ever again!

Well it's ALL GO on Sunday here in Melbourne, it might be a bit chilly with a 7cel ride to the meeting spot but warming up to blue sky's & a sunny 20cel expected *smile*

Here in Scotland the forecast for Saturday is sunny, Sunday raining in the afternoon. Currently aiming for a reasonably early start on Sunday for a 4 hour ride on the old Douglas and hopefully missing the rain. Must work out how to take a selfie before then.

Rain held off in the morning even if it was a tad chilly for tweed. Went early and got back just before the heavy rain by cutting my ride short. Managed to sort a legal number of riders out of Bristol into a quick procession. Great fun and i had to take the lead at one point which was a bit silly as i was unsure of where i was going! Nice mix of bikes. This ride always important to me, wish my friend could be there to share it.
Been playing with jets in the carb recently. Have returned to original settings and bike has got itself into a mood and plays hard to start now. You got to love it!

Melbourne riders were greeted in the morning with a chilly 4Cel *eek* as the day went on it warmed up to a beaut 20Cel & blue skys, 474 officially registered riders turned up at the meeting point, but I suspect there was quite a few more that just showed up on the day.. we set off to ride in formation through the city, but were split up due to stop lights & city stop go traffic, We stopped along the way for the group to reform, & I rode for a good Klm past parked bikes & there was still more behind me. LOTS of Jappers, Harleys, BMW's, NEW Triumphs, & Indian Enfields, mine was the only BSA.. It was a great turn out & opportunity to catch up with old mates & to make new friends.. Back home I discovered my cone type air filter had fallen off... BUGGA.. *smile* anyway here is just a couple of pics of the day... WELL DONE to the organizers & ALL for attending & supporting this great cause.. *wink2*

Absolutely hosed it down for most of my solo ride. All going well though until about the 50 mile point when one cylinder stopped firing. Managed to limp on as far as the one spot of civilisation out in the wilds - a hotel and restaurant. Turned out that the head had come off an exhaust valve (not uncommon back in the day) so it was call out the recovery. Ho hum.

Nice pics. Glad you were able to get out on the day. For myself, could not sort my clutch problem in time. In what is now seeming an overabundance of cuation, Chicago was "Ride Solo," so, once the bike is fixed, I'll just pick a day to imagine I'm doing the DGR.

G'day Fellas.
My local ride was a solo so rode up to a mates place at Bathurst. It was still foggy and frosty at 9am so went up the highway. Had a few cleansing ales till it warmed up a bit and took the back way home via O'Connell pub, Tarana pub, Sodwalls (no pub). Parts of the road never gets sun in winter so some corners were tricky with wet leaves. Met a mate at Tarana so it was a race back to Lithgow. Guess who won? *whistle*

Today the weather here is great so I took off for my DGR. I covered 100 miles, mostly through beautiful scenery including the Malvern Hills. There are still swathes of Bluebells around and some meadows are covered in bright yellow buttercups.
The bike hums along at 50.
The new Mitas tyres are good. Not having a squared off Avon on the back makes cornering feel so much safer.
I saw a Buzzard chasing a Red Kite out of its airspace.
Most other bikers wave, nod or shake a leg when they see me coming. Nice. 👍

I found my Dapper cloths from last time which had got wet and muddy and for some reason I never cleaned or dried them properly, they are in the bin. So in normal gear and on a normal Tuesday night ride I considered my DGR done. It rained again and I got wet again but this time all the cloth have been cleaned and dried *smile*
Lets hope for a sunny one next time

Did my solo DGR ride today on the first real sunny day... Still running in the new pistons and new rings, so only a short round trip of app. 50 miles. She is running fine, hope this will continue, just need to sort a leaking fork oil seal, but that will have to wait ;)

Finally able to designate a ride as this year's "Ride Solo" DGR. Rode out to the annual Chicago Norton Owner's Club Picnic. Illinois is fully open and I'm fully vaccinated, so, limitied worries, for me, at least. Granted, the ceremonial completion of the ride is all in my head. I guess I should have taken pictures of the CNOC bikes to add flavor to it. Sorry.
I belong to CNOC with a few other BSA-only owners, because there is no CBSAOC.

Don't know much about the DGR apart from its purpose. No bike owners clubs around here anyway (just a couple for classic cars - only motoring club I belong to is for racing). In fact my son is the only other person I know who rides a bike on the road. Is there a means of making a donation instead?

I did it a couple of times but no more. It all looks really great in the international events videos, but is (or at least, my chosen rides) were disorganised, stop-start, and rather boring in both venues and bikes attending, if I'm being honest.

Yes, I tend to agree with you. The ride is really about modern bikes who's riders are mostly knob-heads that just want show off and make a lot of noise. I've usually felt rather out of place on my ever-so-umble BSA. One time I got left behind by the boy racers so gave up and found my way home.

All the rides I've been on were well organized and good routs taken. Last year I did a solo but this year there's a Bathurst ride. Hope the rout takes in Mt Panorama and or the old Vale Circuit. I'll show'em how to take corners on a HD *smile*

A good cause and an event I keep managing to miss *conf2*, unfortunately this year it clashes with a vintage bike rally in Whangarei over the weekend that will have typically around 70 classics attending, with BSA's in solid numbers. Its a nice modest 160km from here so good whatever the weather (our weather is usually packing up with plenty of showers and cooling down in May) .
Sadly I wont be on either of my two road pre unit BSA's, but a bike of the same period from some other factory in stevenage . my only non BSA.
Look forward to seeing some pics of distinguished riders from the forum even if on non BSA's *wink2*
At least I'll be out there making noise.

Did it once on the A10, couldn't hear myself think for the noise of unsilenced custom Harleys. They don't seem to understand that they are actively putting ordinary people off bikes by riding through busy town centres on them. When you see kids covering their ears you know you are not winning too many friends.

I did the Oxford DGR. The pelaton rode through beautiful ancient narrow parts of Oxford Town. The knob-heads thought it was cool to rev their bikes so they could hear the echo's back from the walls. I was embarassed. There were many angry looks from pedestrians.
Another thing that irritated me was the ride marshalls using the footpath to get to the front of the pelaton.

Guess i been lucky in Bristol. Well organised, good routes and charming (gentlemanly company). The weather is always my main concern, gets a bit nippy in smart clothes and tie!

I will be wearing some form of trousers, leggings, jeggings, basically whatever I can squeeze under the skirt that might give a modicum of protection.
Up top I'll be rocking a waxed cotton, I figure that's gentlefolk enough and it comes with some padding.

That's the type of jacket I wear (Stag) be it just around the block or 1000 miles. I luv it. I have leather and Dririder jackets that very rarely get used.
All the DGR rides I've been on are restricted to 60kph as the clobber we have on gives very little protection.

I forgot that I needed to create the team that Admin (DGR) would change to "Worldwide Rides." Therefore, I've now created the BSA A7-A10 Forum Team and I will be asking Admin to change the location, unless, of course you all want to come out to Illinois for the ride. So, you guys can now join the team. Just search "BSA".
This is the first year the town where I live has a ride. I've registered here, for now, but may actually ride in Chicago because it's exciting to be in a pack of that many (400-500) bikes riding through every stop light. Anyway, I really like the Caesar salad at the bar that is the start and end point.

Well, I set out with the plan to experiment and show that it was easy to register and join the team, which it is. I created a fake person to ride in Derbyshire and even donated a little real money in the fake person's name. All good. Then, I wanted to remove the fake person from the team, really, entirely, but I cannot find a way to do it. The only possibility for this mattering would be if "Charlie Beezer" takes up a spot in a limited ride.

A lot of my riding is suburban with a lot of stop and go. Riding in Chicago with 400 others, while ignoring every stop light and sign, might actually be less wear on the clutch. My worst experience riding for DGR was getting stuck in Chicago freeway traffic on the 30-mile ride home. My left hand cramped up and I couldn't release the clutch lever. Had to open my left hand with my right so I could pull to the shoulder and recover.

Finally got some get up and go again and ordered a new battery from Andrew in priory gonner sort oil ,get the bike running and get sorted for the DGR , like a lot going to ride solo as no organised ride for Liverpool. will check for forum connection

That website is just dreadful. I wonder how much they would raise if they actually made it easy. Anybody know if it is any better on a phone.
There are rides and teams. It forces you to join a ride (I have no intention of going to bury st edmunds) and you can optionally join a team. The BSAA7-A10FORUM is a team. I found it eventually and am in and will ride alone.

To find the team ride, at the top of the page, click on the magnifying glass in the upper-right corner and search for "BSA". Right now it comes up as 11 riders and one team, "BSA A7-A10 Forum, taking part Worldwide". Click on the black "Join Team" button around the middle of the page. You may need to be registered individually first. Not sure. My current complaint about the site is that I can't remove the ficticious member I created to test the team-joining process, "Charlie Beezer".

Today is prep day. Small stuff to do. Last week, I realized that I hadn't registered my bike during the pandemic, so I'd been riding with 2-year-expired registration. Emergency trip to the licensing station took care of that on Thursday. A little less anxious than previous years because the local ride is Naperville rather than Chicago, so, no 60-mile round trip to the start/end point. Less to worry about a distant breakdown, not that my bike has shown recent signs of temperament. (That's the least jinxing way I can put it.) Not sure what the local organizer has planned for the route, but it seems like it could be much like my own regular ramblings.
Glad to be thinking of the forum team doing this in imagined unison. Riding dapper in tomorrow's cool weather doesn't really lend itself to donning my forum T-Shirt. (Yes newbies, their is a forum T-shirt, though, not sure if still available).
I'll try to post some pics tomorrow afternoon. Hope the rest of you do the same.

Up at 5am out in the shed at 5:30 pondering which bike to ride. Two things to consider 1 weather, been raining for days and forecast is more to come although the radar is clear. 2 comfort, left hip is giving me hell (2x15mg Oxy's help) and right one is starting to go out in sympathy. So it's wet = rHonda 1100 with fairing, comfort= HD with forward controls and nice seat, or fun the back way on the Xt500.

Been cleaning up the A10 today, nightmare! Hasn't been cleaned since the 90's, i've always been a fan of wiping the particularly grubby bits with an oily (ACF50) rag. I remember now a clean bike draws attention to the scratches and chipped paint through many incompetent attempts at maintenance! Ah well, will be getting a good oil up after the ride tomorrow. At one point i was considering a proper resto job but the thought of taking it off the road for so long would drive me nuts. Safe riding tomorrow yous lot.

Fog or Low cloud was lifting, Glad Rags on for a SOLO ride & met up with a estimated 500 like minded fools at the Moon Dog Brewery.. *wink2*

G'day Fellas. Good turn out of about 50 at the Bathurst DGR. Light rain for the first half of the ride up. Some sun & cloud but no rain during the run but got light rain again half way home. I think Lithgow is the coldest & wettest town in Oz. Glad I took the rHonda.
The run was lengthened a bit, starting at Mt Panorama, a couple of laps of the CBD and regroup out of town. Then back to town and the Rockerbilly Cafe for a chilli dog and vanilla malt thickshake *eek* yes that's right, no beer *ex*
The oldest bike was a 1926 Ravat, the newest?biggest was a new 2500cc Trihard Trident.

Just back from the Bristol,GB DGR. Great fun, chaotic ride,Some fab bikes and got chatty with some interesting fellas. No photos, couldn't be a...d and was super streamlined, no topbox. 300 bikes is a mint turn out.

Back from my local ride. Maybe 35 or 40 riders. As I suspected, very much like my own personal local rides out - a loop or two around my town (1.5 miles to the west) and some somewhat faster bits on bigger streets. I teased the orgazizer at the end, noting that he may have left two or three stop signs off the route. I was riding near the end of the pack, wishing those ahead were a little more convincing when getting cross-traffic to hold for the group. Nevertheless, we generaally rolled through most stop signs as a group. I did miss the excitement of the Chicago ride with 400-500 other bikes and route cruisers who zoom along next to the pack to stop traffic, with Chicago cops turning their heads.
As you can probably assume, being in a small ride in a Chicago suburb, my bike did get almost all the oohs and ahs. That may have been the pay off for missing out on the Chicago ride.

So the London ride had about 500 bikes. Superb weather, warm but not silly hot. London being London there was lots of traffic, and we couldn't jump the traffic lights, so it all got a bit fragmented. BMW didn't like the stop / start and misbehaved by flickering it's oil light. Need to talk to the mechanic who built it, but my guess is the oil just getting too hot and runny.
Everyone had a great time, and on a personal note, everyone was super friendly and chilled about my being trans. Loads of nice comments and not one single dodgy look. Definitely a good day for all!
My photos were done on my ancient iPhone so they're not great. Unsurprisingly, they're all of bikes apart from the 3 attached to this post.

I’ll be riding in the DGR again this year on May 17th and hope some others here will, as well. Unlike some previous years, I’m not asking DGR admin to create a special A7/A10 Forum Worldwide Ride, as previous interest from our membership has been too low to justify it.
A few years ago a couple of guys organized a ride in Naperville, IL, where I live. Not as exciting as riding 30 miles into Chicago and back, but still a bit of camaraderie, though, few classic bikes. The route will likely be similar to my own solo rides.
