Title: Gearbox drain plug

I have had difficulty getting any kind of spanner on the G.B. drain plug (28-0243) because there is very little of the head showing.
I am toying with the idea of using a 5/16", UNC BUTTON HEAD BOLT so that I can get an allen key on it.
How long is the drain plug bolt ?
or, does anyone know of another alternative ?

 The thread is not very long,  maybe 1/2"? (WW.)spanner size 1/4 or 5/16ww of which you no doubt aware...being a slightly domed head I understand your dilemma.
 Sometimes I wonder if  it's packed with  a rubber  'O' ring  or washer or two might help  *dunno*

I agree the bl@@dy thing is awkward but my main problem is getting it back in ( as the churus girl said to the vicar ) !! Last time I lost best part of an hour trying to relocate it ,could alonger bolt be fitted or will that foul the kick start mech ??

  Maybe not with the kick-start Bob, bit that bit is not the issue...it's more the head size/ mechanical advantage of the drive that is the issue

Easiest to use a bolt/screw with full sized head.

Those 1/2 thickness original style bolts are not very user friendly.

You need a 5/16 x 18 tpi BSW x 1/2 inch length bolt.

You can then sit it in a socket and offer it up to the gearbox.
