On top of back primary case there is a hole, I have poked a wire down it and it appears to be above the rear chain.
I was thinking that I could run the oil tank breather pipe down to this hole and any oil that blows out of the oil tank breather would then lube the rear chain.
Can anyone see any drawback to this?.

The original purpose of the hole was for a fixing screw for the top of the front part of the full chaincase. But they are often left out.
The front part of the chaincase is threaded 1/4 x 26 tpi.
Cannot see any reason it could not be used for a breather as suggested.

Ok concept, but there shouldn't be much (any) oil blowing out the oil tank or engine breather anyway, and if you feed it down onto the top of the chain I'd say it'd be flung straight off- not so bad if it's fed to the inside of the chain, but probably better to run it into a catch bottle. I did that and still only have a few drops after a few thou miles

The reason that I thought about putting it into that hole was not to lube the chain (fully enclosed chaincase) but the place where it would make the least mess. When I got the bike the previous owner had terminated the breather pipe down by the rear footrest so that any oil that did come out would drip onto the R.H. silencer.

I've not a tube on my oil tank breather and never noticed any oil coming out of it, the "tower" on top of the oil tank is stuffed with wire mesh to prevent oil getting out of the breather outlet I guess, this applies to the swing arm tank anyway
