Title: gear box set up for gear change

Bit of advise please,
found that the detent on My a10 1960 gearbox had been abused and casing had a piece missing, obtained a new old stock casing and rebuilt gears into new box with new bearings, Both shafts and gears are good to reuse,
on setting up detent cam to small segment for selectors N , fitted first end cover with ratchet selector, pip on selector aligned with pip on casing, Is this correct ??

Yes - box in neutral marks aligned.

Reading posts it may be that I have swapped the selector forks around and got a sticky box, will give that a try as not completely happy with gear selection.

 John,

 You should be correct. After you tighten the one screw that holds the inner case cover on, turn the gearbox over by hand and make sure you can select all the gears. If you have the inspection cover off, its good to keep an eye on the inner workings while doing this.

 When I was lining my pips up, I could not get all the gears.

 I ended up putting my detent in fourth gear and making sure my selector was in fourth also. Then everything just magically worked.

1st N 2nd are ok just unsure about 3rd and 4th, think first job swap over the selectors.

 I think swapping the selector forks won't make a difference as they're identical, unless some wear makes a difference.

 Make sure you spin the output shaft while selecting (the one with the drive sprocket on)- makes it easier

previous post on this subject refer to wear in selector fork spigots so for the time it takes am also going to try this.

Selector forks was not the problem lack of experience was !!

Fit selector forks onto quadrant first with quadrant in neutral, select first gear then drop on centre plate with gear selector fork ident and casing ident looking at each other,

Hey presto now selects 4 gears and neutral without any bother.
