Title: A7 1951 brake cable position
Post by: Rex on 17.06. 2017 22:14
Hi all, my 1951 A7 (with the 7"(?) front brake) looks a bit non-standard in the front brake cable stop department.
So would the lower cable stop be on the brake plate (as on later bikes) or on the rear of the fork slider (as on C12s etc)
Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge all the early 7" single sided brakes had the adjuster low down on the fork leg like a C12.... but I may be wrong! If it's the type I'm thinking of it has a button on the brake plate which locates in a hole on the fork leg.

Hi,
+1 on beezermaccs  diagnosis  *smile*
The 7"in. plate is steel and more or less identical to the B31 of the period and the later C11/12 brake
Recently I discovered that the C fork leg has a different position for the centre mudguard bracket
The 8in plate is alloy and has the cable anchor combined with the shoe pivot

Had I waited I could have answered my own question, as there was a plunger B33 at the show I was in today, and the cable stop is indeed on the bottom of the fork leg. Looks like another little job for the lathe and welding kit then...
