Title: Front brake anchor

I am fitting a TLS brake to my A7.
I have to modify the anchor on either the forks or the brake plate or both.
My question is - Has anyone tried HTS rods to build up the anchor on the alloy brake plate.

 If I was going to do this, it would be the fork slider I modified.

 It's easy to weld shape and paint.

 It's almost impossible to weld polished aluminum and have it blend decent.

 Plus if you ever want to go back, 2 minutes with a grinder, a little paint and done. Plus your expensive break plate is still unmodified.

Anyone should be able to easily (And cheaply) weld the slider. Not so the break plate.

The fork slider tube is quite thin.

The art of welding it is not to distort it.

I will wrap a wet cloth around the leg prior to welding.

I went the other route, built up the brake plate nubs with Tig. It welded nicely .

Roy do you have the slider off and forks dismantled?
Just checking that you know a wet towel isn't going to protect your fork seals or other internals?  Remember it'll be somewhere in the region of 3000 degrees C at the point of welding. Maybe a few thin layers with a quench in between layers would be the way to go.  Again though as Julian pointed out the slider tubing is not thick so you'll even have to be careful cooling it down too.  A good clean out afterwards too as there will be scorched oil residue etc.

Hi All,
Welding to the fork will be onto the existing lug not the tube?
I would not weld onto the tube, it will distort
The original question was about HTS rods which as far as I know are low temp "solder" type ???
