Hi all.
Does anyone know where I can purchase a set of Eddie Dow dampers and springs in Aus?
The 57 pound delivery from SRM in the UK on items worth 135 pounds is a little excessive.
Thanks in advance,
Hadrian.

Hi Hadrian,
Way back in 2010 *eek* I added a thread and drawing of the dampers
https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?topic=2895.msg19476#msg19476
If you can access machining facilities its an easy job to make a set
At the time there was discussion on the length of the "rod" as the valve does not reach the oil with the factory
amount filled in
Recently Julian added the instructions from Eddy Dow,
Fitting the Dow complete kit involved fitting longer fork bushes, this shortens the overall fork length from standard
by 2 in.
No mention is made of fitting the dampers to standard forks *????*
I added extra oil but reduced viscosity to 10weight when I fitted the dampers to my A10
experimenting until I was happy with the "bounce"

G'day Hadrian.
I used John's drawing to make a few sets. Was thinking of making a few more next year (after moving house).

Thanks guys.
No machine tools or skills unfortunately.
Musky, let me know if you have a set for sale.
Cheers, Hadrian.

I bought mine from Paul Goff (UK) as they have the exposed nuts and that was the look I was after. Made from stainless steel so fit and forget *smile* http://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffyfork.htm

Got mine from Autocycle Eng. [email protected] 01384 253030. Much cheaper than SRM and a good quality. Firm is own by Chris Vincent the sidecar racer, so they know what's what.

I think you will find Autocycle is owned by Chris Williams.

Hi chaterlea25: Regarding the Dow longer bushes, was that due to fitting the alloy Superleggera top yolk because of the difference from the original yolk?

Hi All.
Seeking further advise from this old topic.
I have just purchased a lathe and am super keen to start learning a whole new set of skills.
John, what material should I use for this project?
Someone has suggested that I use aluminium.
Cheers,
Hadrian.

Yes, see here:

Hi Hadrian,
Congratulations on the new purchase.
if you are brand new to using a lathe, read this http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1617/3789.pdf (http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/1617/3789.pdf)
This was required reading at one time, and you had to buy the paper copy. I still have mine somewhere.
There is a lot of information packed into that book that may save someone hours and hours of trial and error (another term for frustration).

G'day Hadrian.
I used alloy for mine. Both the rod and valve unit.
Start a new topic in Chat re the lathe with a pic or two of your purchase.

Thanks for the lead Lee. It looks very helpful and I need all the help I can get.
Musky, I have to wait a week for delivery and will post a pic.
The machine is quite small but I wanted an entry level model to learn the tricks of the trade.
I was assured that it would be suitable for my small projects.
Cheers,
Hadrian.
