I am thinking of buying a 99% complete 1958 A7SS it just needs a new speedo and bracket. The bike has been restored but is not 100% original which is not an issue for me. The only thing missing is a speedo and a fork top speedo bracket and cable. Seems original speedos are made of gold given the asking prices. *eek* I understand there are some half decent new copies to be had. I wonder if anybody could point me in the direction of such a speedo and fork top mounting bracket, please? Thanks.

Hi,
There are Indian made speedos available cheap and cheerful, however they are deeper than the originals and to my mind look wrong when mounted separately, a special cable is needed to adapt to BSA drive
Replica Smiths (UK) instruments , https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/bikes
scroll down for the chronometric replica's
Not cheap either!!!

OMG they want to pull your pants down and for that price you could buy a good used one *eek*

G'day Atoll.
I have an Indian one on my Cafe. They are larger and mount differently and need the cable made to fit.
I mounted mine in a ss coffee mug. The cable was a marriage of A10 bottom and Royal Enfield top.

Great looking bike!

Am wondering if I could take the inners out of an Indian one and fit it into a replacement smiths speedometer casing if it would not be too shallow. *conf*
Anybody opened up an Indian copy one?
-
This looks interesting and cheap but comes with a brass bezel, however, I might be able to change it to chrome, any thoughts?
-
The brass bezel makes it look rather 'Steam Punk'. You could make your bike into a Bobber; then you wouldn't have to worry about the brass bezel! JOKING!

I've stripped a few Indian clocks down and converted them to take a standard Smiths cable but it's not a simple task. I don't think Indian innards would fit into a Smiths case as they are all magnetic types with the the central cable fitting. The genuine chronometric cable fitting is off centre. Also many of the cheaper speedo have the white line (normally at the 30mph mark) set at 40 or 50 mph. Although I have photoshopped the dial to correct them it a real PITA.

I have ordered an Indian one just waiting for it's arrival. I will need a cable with Royal Enfield speedo end and BSA A10/7 bottom fitting. Anybody know where I can get hold of one in the UK?
I am buying bits for a bike I don't actually own yet. *eek*
