Title: Tank Colour

Hi all,
       Stripping the paint off my newly aquired A7 Plunger 1949 which was black and chrome I found a small amount of Dark green paint under the black which could have been the original colour.Any ideas what colour that original paint could have been?(I know its green)and a colour code.
   What should I be paying to have the tank re-chromed and then painted in either black or the new found green. thanks for  all the answers.

Citing Bacon's"BSA Twin Restoration" (which got me in a little trouble in a previous topic), there was no green in 49 A7's. It appears that a green tank with chrome sides was used on '53-'54 Star Twin.

 I thought the no chrome only happened in 51? Some type of nickle shortage or something, cant remember were I got that from so I could be way off the mark here...

1) Do you really think that the tank on the bike now is the same one that it left the factory with ? very few are.
2) No chrome was always an option particularly for large contract purchases ( police despatch riders etc,)
3) It is your bike paint or plat it whatever colour combination gets your juices flowing.
4) the best way to get a bad job done is to tell the finishers what they should be charging you for a job.
Do you want the tank to make you proud to have it on your bike or the tank that allows you to bragg about how cheaply you got it done ?

The parts book lists chrome with black and gold lining.

All depends if you want to go original or not.

Note the prices quoted on the "mot" thread only today for a beautiful tank job.
More than double what you were suggesting.

i always say the tank is the crown and glory so
if you want your bike to stand out get it plated and painted
i always think a crome tank looks the best
you can always use it to come your hair if you carnt find a mirror *smile*

It looks like going to the chrome platers when I start the renovation unless its better to buy one of the ready chromed tanks  on flee bay.
    I usually comb my hair with a flannel by the way.
