Evening all
Just as a bit of light relief from my scary engine rebuild I dug the frame out of the shed today to see where the centre stand should fit. Nothing is straightforward with this bike and lo and behold no mountings. I thought they would be welded to the frame but all I can see are two short stubs. Maybe someone has cut them off but why? I'll enclose a pic and any comments most welcome.

I cannot be certain from the photo, but that frame looks like its meant to take the gold star type stand *????*
Can you confirm that there is a piece of 1/2 tube welded over the frame cross tube?
This 1/2 tube is the stand stop, reinforcing the frame tube
Attached pics, the one with dimensions was sent to me by a friend in USA taken from a Goldie frame and my repaired frame (crap pic but it was in some unknown format that I could not download, so photo'd the laptop screen *conf2*)
When I made the lugs to these dimensions the (0.93in.) stand pivot distance was too close to the cross tube and fouled, so I had to make a second pair *work* ( I made them from thicker steel than original )

John, going by what I guess is the oil pump bend in your top pic; is that pic also upside down ?
Not pickin' yer work, just checking if I'm upside down or not.... *conf2*.... yeah ok- maybe 'cos I'm looking from down-undah (almost went to Nundah last night to see Dave Warner from the suburbs but didn't happen)

The frame was upside down on the bench when the pic was taken, *conf2*
That's the 54/5 frame for project B33.9

Thanks for the replies guys.
I don't have the half tube shown in your photo John so I can only conclude that someone has chopped the brackets off for some unknown reason. Using your drawing and a centre stand when I get one I'll make up a couple of lugs and weld them on. Hopefully they might line up with the stubs that are left on but nothing about this bike would surprise me now. *roll*

What year is the frame?
The later frames and stands are different to the one pictured
Good quality early (GS type) stands are available fro Autocycle Engineering
It is getting difficult to find the late type stands

I think the frame is a 1960. I'm waiting for the documents to come back from DVLA so not 100% sure. The frame has been powder coated so I can't see if the lugs have been cut off. When I get it stripped and turned upside down I'll have a better idea of what traumas have befallen it *work*

What a handy thing *smile*.
It would seem that the bike is a 1960 and the engine is a 57 Road Rocket. Think I'll just get a stand and make it fit. *bash*
