Title: Non standard front brake
Post by: Greybeard on 16.03. 2019 11:43
Who needs a front brake anyway?

When I mentioned the lack of a front brake, this was the reply from Ray Stillwell, the poster of the picture:

"No rear brake either, American flat-track did not allow brakes until 1970 or 71"

 *eek* *eek* *eek*

Yes they only carry a rear now. Supposedly as an aid to 'back' the bike into the corner.

Reminds me of my Hagon/J.A.P. sandracing days. Scrutineers insisted on front and rear brakes, so we took the shoes out of the front and welded the cam. That way a squeeze of the lever made it feel like a brake was present. Using a front brake on sand would be lethal.
