Title: Tyres
Post by: Russ on 04.02. 2020 10:26
Hi all,
I know this topic has been discussed before but I would like your opinion on which tyre to fit to my bike.
I have  a 51 A10 which, when I get it on the road I will be 70, so it will be ridden sedately on a sunny Sunday.
My local supplier / motorcycle enthusiast doesn't like Dunlop's as they go hard?
I want a tyre that has the 50's look. Your suggestions appreciated.
Russ

I'll be putting new shoes on my baby before next season. I intend to get Mitas tyres. Something from this page:
https://www.mitas-moto.com/en/products/motorcycle--on--road--tires/motorcycle--classic--tires

These are the ones made for 19" rims:

Everyone has their favourite. Mine (as fitted to most of my bikes) is Speedmaster mk2 on the front and K70 on the rear. Used these when I used to do hill-climbing as well, whilst others were sliding off with their 'racing' tyres.

Whereas I like a Speedmaster Mk II on the front and an SM Mk II on the rear. Don't like K70s. In my experience they wear out quickly and don't grip. Have had the back coming round to meet the front on dry roundabouts a couple of times.

Mitas are good in my experience and don’t hurt the wallet too much when need changing

I buy “endurant” brand now, not k70’s.

I think you'll find that the modern Dunlop tyres are as good as any as they all use soft modern compounds even on old fashioned styled tyres. That said I too would opt for Mitas as they are very good value for money and I have found they give excellent service. My only beef with them is that they make a lovely beaded style front tyre in 18" but only a block tread style in 19".
