Title: A10 Police bike fuel tanks.

I just noticed a couple on ebay, looks like they'll be cheap as chips.
Perfectly serviceable for someone.
They have a big lip welded to the tank in the shape of a box to take a police radio.
I don't know if it recesses into the tank as well though.
You could always make up a lid and use it to store tools or waterproofs.

Hi Ian,
Now I am really confused *conf* *conf* *conf*
The tank on my Super Rocket has 4 tapped holes on the top of it (like a Triumph tank that takes a parcel grid)
I had always assumed (been informed) it was a police tank, I have only ever seen one other like mine, it was on an autojumble stall at Founders Day this year
Now looking at the tanks on Ebay these are totally different, unless there were different types of radio used  ????
Has anyone else any information on Police BSA's
Or did BSA produce a tank grid like Triumph as an extra???

Different Police forces probably chose their own specifications for the bikes. I have an ex Metropolitan Police Velocette LE and it's spec. differs from that of some other UK forces machines. In particular, some bikes had a different layout for the radio which required relocating the petrol filler cap.

I have a mate who I will be with tomorrow who also has an A10 with 4 tapped holes in the top just like a Triumph tank I will ask him if he knows the history behind it and let you know the outcome

 Guys,

 I am positive this can be attributed to different forces using different fleet specs. Just ask the Harley guys here in the states who restore police bikes- it can be a nightmare! *conf*

 I guess every area has some type of bureaucratic committee, and a budget. Some areas have more money, or better (smarter) committees, and a lucky few have both. And then you have the areas with no money and nobody who knows "whats-what" on the committee anyways...I deal with this all day long in real life. There are probably no two areas or "forces" with identical bikes even in this day and age.

 I would imagine both tanks are correct, it just depends on which department the tank came from.

Well acording to my source(mate) BSA put the holes there for the police forces so that anything could be fixed there, i.e. a grid or a box to take different spec radios
so there you have it
However as Lee has posted both are probably correct as BSA did many things not all of them standard or documented to accomadate different markets and forces

Just thought that I would show my latest as a way of making a bland police tank more practical and more pleasing on the eye.
