Title: Does this belong? The trouble with buying a bike in bits.
Post by: Steveba10 on 30.09. 2020 17:30
Hi, I’m hoping someone may be able to identify the part pictured below.

My 1957 A10 Plunger Frame bike was in bits when I bought it.
And I mean in bits, totally.
Added to that the previous owner, sadly demised, had other bikes in bits, in the same shed.
They were removed before I bought the plunger.

I’ve been doing dry runs assembling wheel hubs, spacers, dust covers, spindles etc.
I have a 8” half width hub on the front and a QD crinkly hub on the rear.
Everything seems ok except I have the part shown below left over.

I’ve searched through Draganfly’s parts illustrations but the nearest I can find is a felt retaining cap ( 67-5888 ) from a 7” Half Width Hub.
Buy mine is definitely 8”, it also has torque are that the 7” does not.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Steve.

Looks like  a dust cover unless there is paint on it, then forks ? Great fun these bikes.

It’s not a 67-6128 - rear hub shell cover is it? For crinkly hub.

Reckon bergs is on the money. Dust cover that fits above the top steering race cone. Part no is 66 5203 (early) or 66 5204 ( later plunger and S/A frames). Either a typo or very minor differences in the two parts.

If the forks are assembled correctly, looks like you have one extra.

Thank you very much for your answers.

There was no sign of paint, just surface rust and no sign of a part number.
I’ve got the dust cover that holds a felt for the crinkly hub, and could not see where this part would fit on the front hub.
I was beginning to think it came from a different bike.

But Berger got it right, it is indeed the ‘yoke centre stem cover.’

I’d assembled the stem with new ball bearings, put the top cone in place followed by the yoke and missed the need for a cover.
I’ve removed the top yoke and am pleased to say the cover fits the stem perfectly.
Lesson learnt.

Thank you all again,
Steve.
