I have just bought a 1955 swinging arm Golden Flash. With no front footrests! Chap said he mislaid them, but as I was leaving said previous owner had rear sets on, presumably thinking he was on a RGS? Anyway guy then gave me 1 side footrest and hanger, hanger was just under 3" long (ignoring peg). Looks new Indian made? I then bought a pair of footrests and hangers off Ebay, to find they were one side footrest & hanger, after being advertised as footrests, which I questioned as only one was in photo, BEFORE bidding. This hanger is 4 7/8" long, can anyone help me and tell me if either are any good for this bike. At least I have 2 footrests, just need help on their hangers. Also as I left he mentioned it wet sumps, so reading up on this great forum, it sounds like I want to fit an SRM pump and new oil pressure spring & check seat? I have seen plenty of advice on this on the forum. I have just got back into British bikes after a few years of Japanese and looks like I have a baptism by fire, any help appreciated.
I have now found out the offside footrest bought on Ebay is correct 42-4804, The footrest bracket I bought with it at 4.7/8" long is correct for the nearside! The 3" long bracket I was given with the nearside footrest is correct for the off side (info on sizes found on Dragonfly web site) *smile*, That just leaves me with the nearside footrest. BSA parts list for a10 1954 & 1955 list it as 42-4805, however number on nearside footrest given with bike says 42-4854, which Dragonfly say is Gold Star, can anyone tell me if it will fit the a10, or is the bends in the wrong place, nearly sorted thanks. *beer*

42-4854 should be correct for a standard A10 (at least that's what I got on my '58 SA frame)

Hi Mick,
First, 42-4854 is the footrest used from 1958 and goes with tube 42-4557 which is 3 1/2' long.
Left hand rest from 1954 - 57 is 42-4805 and goes with tube 65-4811 which is 4 1/8" long.
All years on the right side used rest 42-4804 with tube 42-4806 which is 2 1/4" long.
I've found that both left rests are hard to find so if you are not going for concourse, use what you have.
The tubes are easily shortened to suit.
The lengths I have given are for the tube section only.
Trevor.
Note that I corrected the details for the right side.

Thanks for the info, I will fit what I have for now then, cheers.

OK, latest info on a10 footrests for swinging arm. I now have BSA parts list for 1954-1855 swinging arm a10 listing n/s footrest as 42-4805, the later BSA spare parts book for 1954-1957 listing it as 42-4840. Then later parts book saying 1958 on is 42=4854. o/s for 1954-1957 is 42-4804 . so there we have it, unless anyone else knows different. I will try to fit the 42-4854 on for now, until I get the right one. Thanks for people who gave me links to original parts books, also Dragonfly web site was very useful. As expected plenty of adverts from Indian suppliers saying different. Also trying to sell footrest distance tubes as all one size! But that's another story. check Dragonfly web site for sizes you need. Right now onto sorting the wet sumping, Santa please send me an SRM pump.
