Has anyone had any problems after fitting tapered steering head bearings?
I think the new bearings have pulled the headstocks closer together by about 5mm. It does not sound like a lot but it is playing havoc with fitting the trousers and the headlamp cowl.

Fitting taper rollers normally spaces the top and bottom yokes further apart in my experience and that's the reason I stick with the original bearings.

I don't recall having any problems fitting mine. Are you sure you haven't omitted the dust cover? Where they sold as correct for the bike or are they generic?
-
The bearings were from a reputable supply for an A10.

I read somewhere before on here that they usually extend the distance between the yokes and remember that somebody saying they used an O ring to fill/disguise the gap.....

It's common to see bikes that have had taper roller bearings fitted to see a visible portion of the rollers exposed to the elements. Not good for the bearing's longevity.. *sad2*

Hi Rex
I fitted them and yes a bit of the bearing can be seen, but it's not as if this is a bearing that does/moves much, I wouldn't lose much sleep over it.

The OP says he has the issue of the yokes being too close.

I tried rollers. The exposed bit of bearing let water in and rusted quickly. I reverted to cup and cone.

My bearings are flush, well less than 2mm from the top of the frame. See photos That’s my problem, the bearings fit too well.
I have ordered some shims to give me 4mm additional height.
