Title: Plunger column 67-4134
Post by: bikemadinspain on 08.02. 2021 13:20
Hi ladies and gents, I am after a plunger column for a 53 Golden flash. I have one on back order with Draganfly but does anybody have or know where I can get one from. I have been away from the bike for approximately 8 years due to illness and with help am hoping once and for all to get it finished.

Many thanks

Make your own. Its a basic 1" steel tube, threaded at the top for a fancy cap, and maybe a small horizontal groove cut the clear the lower pinch bolt. Originals were hard chromed.  If tube is hard to source a solid bar would do, and while waiting for Drags at least you can get it mobile and have the satisfaction of some progress. Service Sheet 213 has the details, use threaded bar, nuts,  and a couple of sheet metal plates in lieu of the official assembly tool. If you have the parts but they are worn, the column can also be rotated to present a less worn area to the load side of the bushes.  The sliding carriers  can also be swapped side to side and top to bottom so that the least worn areas of the bushes take the load on the columns. New bushes and columns if you can get them, but short term rearranging the bits will be of some benefit.

 Swarfy.

I made a tool using just threaded bar, nuts and some big ( about 2”) repair washers. No construction at all just had to assemble it. Worked a treat.

I've done the same. a smaller threaded rod through to compress and then 'slid' the plunger units into place using ratchet straps. Once in place I've refitted the slides.. probably not the safest way without a full face helmet - done it a few times though now without injury...
