Title: lucas 6H horn wire size?

Hello
i'm trying to resurrect the horn on my 61 super rocket (6 volt). please see the pics - I think this is a 6H (as per stamping on the back). of note there are two coils whereas from what i can tell the altette (as should be fitted) and 8H etc has one coil.
so...
does it look like a 6H?
anyone know the specs of the windings - gauge and turns? the wire measures 0.7mm dia being 22 gauge? - it looks a bit thick.

I think that it is a Clearhooter.
I recently repaired a burnt out one which entailed making new pole pieces as well as coils.
It was a 12V one so the wire size is different.
The 6V Altette has 0.8 mm winding wire, 60 turns from memory.

i spent an hour or two rewinding it and also found a lot of voltage loss from the outside contacts across the aluminum rivets to the inside terminals, so fixed that too. But it still let our a pathetic noise, so fitted a modern 6v one inside the body of it. will upset the rivet counters and the sound is a bit unmanly, but it is certainly loud.

EDIT: i think it is most likely a clearhooter HF80, maybe as per an A65?

Hi Mike, should have tossed it in the bin, they are rubbish.
The one that I repaired was a windtone from a '69 Triumph and the owner was desperate to have it repaired as they are unobtainable. Cost didn't even come into the equation.
I don't know that the A65 ever had a Clearhooter, they had the Lucas 8H as per the A10, Triumph etc.
My T65 has a Clearhooter but the parts book reckons it should be a 6H. Who knows?

Hi Mike, I have a spare (purportedly) NOS clearhooter HF80 that looks like your horn, even has an “H” but it does not work! See pics (I think the “H” is for high note).

These might have been fitted to 67 onwards lightnings and bonnys, tridents and rocket 3’s but I’m not sure.


Edit: one difference is that mine has a stud on the back for the bracket, maybe it’s for a car  *dunno*

thanks Kiwi - that does look like it so I'll call that a positive ID on an HF80 high note.
and good to know I'm not the only one with boxes of bsa bits that don't work   ;)
