Title: Swinging arm clearance.

Hi folks
I am new to this forum. Currently in lockdown in New Zealand.
I have a question...
When I put my 1957 Goldflash on the main stand the swinging arm comes down and makes contact with the nuts for the rear footrest. Should that happen or has the previous owner fitted rear shocks that are too long?
Any help would be appreciated.
I tried to add a photo but it was too big.

I don’t have a concise answer

I have a swing arm 56 A10 with what I think are original crusty rear shocks and a swing arm 54 B33 with new repro girling shocks.
None of the above hit the hardware for the rear passenger footpegs when on the centre stand. I’d say a good 5/8 clearance.

Now , if you haven’t already done so, get over to the intro page and tell us a bit about yerself the bike and stick on some pics of yer bike while your at it.
Snapseed app will sort you out for re sizing pics

Wiser folks than me will chime in I’m sure.

for pictures my computer guru geeza showed me how to put pictures from my phone onto the computer then get them smaller in size to post on here. can't explain in words or tell you why your reat shocks let the arm down. because this is of no help i will go to the pub *beer*   *welcome* to the forum

The easiest way I find to reduce the size of a photo/image is to open the file in "Paint", then find the Resize icon and insert a Reduction %. eg a 1Mb image - put in 50%, and it reduces the file size to less than 500Kb. Then save the file.

What are the length of your shocks, bolt to bolt, when fully extended? Should be close to 13 inches.

Thanks for the tips re resizing photos.... I will try that.... in Paint sounds easy. I think I measured my rear shocks at 325mm bolt centre to bolt centre which is less than 13 inches but I still have contact.

If your happy with paint then fine -carry on, but an even easier one is Paint.net (written by the team that wrote paint but paint.net is not Microsoft I believe)
anyway in Paint.net you just SAVE or SAVE AS and there is a slider (Quality) you just move the pointer until it gives you the size you need

Hi Ewen,
Are the footrests the correct ones? I have some with longer studs than others ?
If the bike was dropped the footrest loops can also get bent inwards
