Morning, I have a plunger A 10 1954, I am looking to fit a pair of japanese 35 mm forks preferably drum brake and definitely spoke wheel ,can an alternative top yoke be used ? can I bore the originals out? any other suggestions,I know it wont be everyone's cup of tea as I appreciate the standard original look but i really want to change the look of mine to a bobber style,I have seen some crackers out there
I did look at the 70'conical front end but would need to re-mortgage
any advice ,parts, tips etc will be gratefully received and apologies to the purists up front

I have done this sort of thing before, not on a BSA, and I would strongly advise sticking with the yokes that come with the forks. That way you can be sure the forks are parallel and the front wheel will fit. Normally you need to adapt the headstock area in the fame, or make some sort of adaptation to accommodate the BSA bearings on the bottom yoke stem.

As CB says a full swap would be better. And while your at it a tapered bearing conversion. Maybe something of an SR/XS Yamahahaha.

I fitted a complete japanese front end to my old FXR Harley - the only problem to solve was the steering head bearings (japanese metric to Harley imperial)
I got a local engineering company to machine the stem to the standard imperial Harley bearing dimensions - very simple solution.

Fitted the front end of a Suzuki GT750 to my '62 GF frame as I wanted disc brakes with a spoked wheel. About the only option way back when I started the project. Fitted taper bearings as to suit the GT yoke stem, and turned up a couple of cups to accommodate them in the frame headstock.
