Post by: Stephen Arsenal on 10.10. 2009 10:48
Hallo guys and dolls,I just tried to fit an A10 seat onto my frame (A10 Golden Flash 1959) and the screws and threads are way out of sync, are there diffrent spacings ?? The problem is the width,my frame screw spacings are circa 22cm and the seat threads way narrower(the frame is not buckled either ) ,would very very thankfull for any information given-steve.

Hi Steve,
As far as i know, the seat mounts changed for 1960, from a one piece bracket bolted to the mudguard, to a two piece set-up. I`m not sure whether the seats were different regarding the hole spacing, but a different seat is listed for 1960 so they could be. The threaded holes in the middle of my 1959 seat are about 6 3/4" apart if that`s any help. Also, if you don`t have a parts book, try looking at Draganfly`s online shop on their website, as it has the pics and diagrams from the parts book, showing you both bracket set-ups with part no`s included. By the way, you also have the added confusion of BSA putting 1960 parts on some late 1959 bikes, (or using up some `59 bits on `60 bikes) which doesn`t help matters.

hopefully that`s made it clearer than mud for you  *smiley4*

Hi Steve,  Have you got the original seat or is the one that will not fit the only one you have. The reason I ask is that when I rebuilt my gold flash (57) the seat was in a real state, but they are relatively easy to rebuild. The cover comes off by removing all the underside clips, you can then strip off all the old foam. Cut to shape foam inners are available, I could look up where I got mine if needs be. You could put a new cover on if you want but in my case It was mainly all the stitching that had rotted so I painstakingly restitched the piping back into the old cover with some black thread(strong). It might not be perfect but I think it's great and it is as original as poss.
Good Luck Huddie

Thanks for the info but the originial one was rusted away and like the beginner I am with bikes(I threw it away).I have a replacement which is´nt in too good nick, but I think I´ve made a mistake anyway.I thought the rear screws went straight into the frame but have been informed by the helpfull board that there is a bridging bracket which lies across the mudguard/ spring part of the rear top part of the frame.Anyway thanks for the info,I´m listening to Pink Floyd staring at the newly sprayed frame which I´ve just bought back from the sprayers,my ,my such a fine lady, its going to be a great summer next year....oh any idea where I can get chrome spikes for a 19" rim, from mister dragonslayer, 68 quid plus tax ??? ta-steve

For the spokes, try Central Wheel, Birmingham area, I believe. About the money, "It's a gas."

If anyone is in need of these seat cover clips then I have some spare, I had a devil of a job finding them when I needed them. Eventually I found alot in one go. Just give us a shout if your stuck!
