Being something of a pedant, a restricted oil flow due to a full sludge trap is most unlikely to result in a thrown rod. A seized piston is a much more likely outcome.

I can't comment personally on the BSA variety of a blocked sludge trap (and touch wood I never will!) but the Triumph twins with a full sludge trap tend to nip up on the big end(s) leading to a broken LH con-rod rather than seized pistons.

worty's big ends survived very well considering that most of the oil was flowing straight into the sump because of a gap between bush and journal bigger than the gap between a train and the platform *whistle*
