Title: Wiring loom tape

Looking for recommendations. I have a split in a wiring harness and it needs repairing. I don't want to use noemal electrical tape as it goes horribly sticky after exposure to water etc.
I have seen some loom tapes that are claimed to be resistant to fluids and heat.
Anyone any experience of these products.

Black self amalgamating tape works for me. Stretch a little as you wind it on as,,apparently, this activates the adhesive.

We used to get that stuff when I worked as a telephone engineer. It was intended for wrapping up cable joints but it was very useful at home. 👍

Yes, excellent. f.ex. to get watertight sat dishes wiring. But have come across different quality, some still solid 15 years after use, some with tendency to more or less selfdisintegrate.

+1 for the self amalgamating tape. BUT get a reputable brand. The stuff available from Aldi and alike aren't that good. 3M Scotch 23 is the best I've found.

Until this thread came up, I haven't thought about this for 50 years and could not remember what my dad (an electrical contractor) used to call it, that is, "friction tape." Thank you all for the advice. Will be looking for good quality (3M) products. Self amalgamating would do the job perfectly.

Loom tape is very thin
Most SA tape is way too thick
From memory Vintage Wiring sells the good stuff
There is no adheasive
IT relies on the nature of a plastic bond at molecular  level which is whay it requires stretching and VERY CLEAN HANDS
I usually wear gloves .
