Title: E3L AC generator
Post by: CheeserBeezer on 04.04. 2025 08:12
Just wondering if anybody has tried one of these?

It is necessary to buy the bespoke regulator as well. I've looked at the wiring diagram which shows the regulator feed to the battery attached directly to the battery, i.e. not going through the ammeter so not sure how the ammeter works. But this is new, fangled, kit which may be superb but I'd like to know others' experiences. They've only been on the market a short while.

Haven't seen one CB.
Comparing to Alton, there's not much in it in price, depending on the additional cost of whatever reg/rect unit they recommend (a version based on a Podtronics unit comes with all Altons I think nowadays).

Interesting development though - and like you, I don't quite see how the schematic works either.

There are also these guys in Germany who sell a wide range made in Poland (could these new ones be the same items through a new channel  ? ? ?):

Hi All,
I wonder who is making these for Wassel /Lucas?
£580 is a fair old chunk of change ???
Plus the reg / rectifier ?

The ammeter will only show discharge with the provided diagram, the regulator output should go to ammeter , same side as  the original BSA wiring diagram.

I just checked the Alton price list for comparison €510 plus € 55 for the regulator
I have not checked if this is plus VAT?

John

Hi John,

the Alton Price is for the complete set, with Belt and Regulator. The cain driven is 490 Euro.
I have one of these polish Generators it is realy heavy compared to the Alton, it is solid steel, Alton is alloy.
For my own I prever the Alton, no probs with all the bikes over the years.

regards Klaus

I hope they work better than the wiring diagram. The output from the regrectifier should go to the ammeter not the battery. Also the lack of fuse on the supply side of the battery is not very clever.

I have an alton and the only problem I have had is letting the belt work loose and it quickly failed.

Also why do they claim it to be a replacement for the mag?

John

There's a fuse shown fitted in the non-earthed battery connection, although I'd move that to the earthed side personally.
