Hi Guys,
Wow! I've been reading some of the comments over the past couple of days and wish I'd joined earlier. You guys are a wealth of info.
I've joined the Forum and thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Dave, or Davemac to save confusion. I live in Brisbane and have an A10, engine no.DA10 2058 frame no. EA7 1391 and I believe that it is a 1958 GF although it has an alloy head and RR front end. I've had the bike since 1983 when I bought it for $800.00, (try doing that these days), but believe it or not it was running and road registered. The problems began when I took it on a short run followed by my brother-in-law who complained that he couldn't see for the smoke and the great clumps of oil hitting his sunnies, oops! Anyway after it was stripped down and apart from the ring problem the flywheel looked like it had been balanced by someone with a welder and drill in a shed in the backyard. I'm not joking there were numerous places where it had been drilled then welded, drilled then welded over and over until it eventually cracked all the way through. I was so impressed by the lack of workmanship that I had it chromed and I now use it as a paperweight. When I get enough posts I'll try and put a picture up and you'll see what I mean. When the bike was eventually on the road the second problem was that I couldn't keep head gaskets up to it. My wife used to say that we didn't focus on MPG but MPHG, miles per head gasket. After the third one I asked the guy to machine the top of the barrels. He said they didn't need it because they were cast and wouldn't be out. I asked him to do it anyway. Guess what? I haven't had ahead gasket problem since, touch wood. That was my initiation into A10s and I call it character building.

Welcome to the forum! Yet another Aussie that tortures us with pictures of sunshine and bike tours while we are freezing. At the moment my only tours are around the house with the snowblower.

Brian - I've been to Mt Gambier some years back I had a mate living at Narracourte, I think that's how you spell it. That Blue Lake is really something.
Richard - Sorry have'nt been to Kalgoorley yet but maybe someday! Have they got one of those shops there like Sarah Lea, you know where you can get seconds cheap, for the gold I mean.
L.J. - G'day to you too and no I've not been to the UK either but I'd like to get over there amongst all those parts.
Bill - Another couple of posts and I'll have that picture, if I can work it out.
M.G. - Thanks for the tip Marcus and if the o-rings don't work I'll chase up those grey buggers.
Rocket Man - The other Dave - I've read some of your tips and learnt heaps I only hope that I might be able to help out some time myself and return the favour.

Gday Dave, there are a number of A10/A7 owners in Brisbane that visit this site, I'm sure you'll meet some of them down there eventually. I'm up in Townsville Nth QLD Australia of couse.
You'll love this site and check it everyday just to see whats happening in the world of BSAs. If you dont know there is a swap meet ( autojumble) at Malaney north of Bris in March 20,21 there are usually a fair amount of BSA parts there. I will be there for sure so get in quick.

Thanks and you're right I do love this site already. I've got a brochure on that Maleny meet and I do hope to be there in March, all going well. I'll probably only be there for the day on Sunday but if I can con the wife we might come up on Saturday.

Another Brissy boy, aye. Actually I was born in NSW but been up here 16 years and I'm still called a Mexican. In answer to your question, no I'm not a member of HMCCQ and yes we should try and hook up with Terry at the Meet.
Bill - I tried to post those pictures of the flywheel but it wouldn't happen. I must be doing something wrong. I'll try again later.

G'day Dave, from a cockroach to a cane toad. Re pictures have a look here http://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php/topic,427.0.html I use Olev's (another cane toad) method, shrinks most pics down to under 100Kb's so you can post 5 at a time.

Boy, don't you live in a great place, Lake Conjola, my wife's Great Aunt used to live at Mollymook, (that'll be a good one for our international guys), and we used to go down there quite often. I'm not really a cane toad because I was born in Sydney and I wouldn't barrack for the Maroons if you paid me, I do barrack for the Lions though. I'm a bit of a philistine, as my wife calls me, when it comes to playing with computers but thanks for the tip about posting photos as you can see I worked it out.
I don't really know how the bike was still running but it was, albeit not very well. After it was stripped down and the problems found I fronted the guy that sold it to me and told him about the mess of the flywheel. He swore black and blue it wasn't him but I have my doubts after some of the other things I found. I'm not really complaing 'cause I got it at a good price.
Hold your horses Dave I got there!
