In reassembling this gearbox, I am unable to get the claw to engage fully with the camplate with the gasket in place. It seems to be short. If I leave the gasket out it will shift correctly. The thickness of the gasket seems to make all the difference in whether it engages or not. The teeth on the claw look good to me as there seems to be little wear on them and they are reasonably sharp. I replaced the sleeve gear bearing and removed the spindle that the camplate rotates on. Its all back together, I don't know what I have done wrong. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Ron B.

I faintly seem to remember that I also had this problem and cured it with a very thin gasket ensuring the mated surfaces are good. However... I did not replace any bearings or remove any parts. It seems to be a common fault to think that a nice big thick gasket will cure oil leaks, and this was what I was trying to do at that time.

Ditto. Use a 0.4 or thinner gasket. I eventually got good results with no gasket and hylomar.

I have just replace gasket as i had a oil leak, how do you set the quadrant up? my first attempt left me with no gears. i stripped it back down, made shore it was in neutral and put it back to gether, its selecting gear but does not feel right, can you help

HI Andy, I just went through this problem. If you use a thick gasket, new one was .014" thick it would not shift correctly. I could only select first and second. I gave up and used no gasket with Loctite 518 and it shifts just fine. I had taken mine completely apart to seal up oil leaks. The tolerances must be tight. Now it shifts just fine and no leaks. Or you can cut a gasket out of typing paper. Loctite or Hylomar will fix it also. Ron B.
