Title: 58 A10 hard shifting

My 58 A10 really shifts hard,not just when running.The shift leaver itself moves hard.Now this bike has sat for 20 years.Is there anything to look for?It definately is not a smooth shifting bike.

Change the oil in the gearbox.
Remove the detent spring ( under the gearbox) and clean out the cup it sits in.
A lot of crud can build up in there stopping it from moving & I have seen some just about solid rust.
If the box has been dry for a long time you can also get rust or crud preventing the rollers on the ends of the shift forks rolling which will make the shifting hard.
A dragging clutch will do the same thing

No trumpets in my shed but probably too many different examples of Small Heath's finest .
Then again there was the 6 XJ's ,2 SR's & R75 ( Work fleet ) that have loose parts rolling around in my noggin.
Always happy to be corrected.
