Hi does anybody know of a site that shows how to test the Lucas MCR2 Regulator, I have done my own fix and testing of the dynamo and it works fine , the regulator looks good but wont function, regards Allan

Hello, see the picture, only way I figured out how to test & really investigate the complete charging system & regulator (apart from ohm'ing my way trough it) when not fitted on the bike. And the Lucas Service manual is now available here http://www.a7a10.net/BSA/lucasmain.htm , hope this helps.

Thanks E, thats just about how I did it to verify that the Dynamo was charging,(and it is) but to verify the regulator as per the Nicholsons book (motorcycle mechanics)it was a little more cumbersome  nothing seems burnt out so maybe i dont have the best connections as I did make up the fittings to insert into the regulator regards Allan

Hi Allan,  The BSA Service Sheet number 804 goes into great detail for testing the MCR1 & MCR2 Regulator Units. It shows how to test them both on and off the bike.  I will try to post the detail and hope that it is legible.  Beezageezauk.

Recently tried to set up my old mechanical reg after the K-Tec packed up. :'(  I set up the air gaps with a feeler guage. (So easy to do these things on the kitchen work top) However I found it hard to set the electrical adjustments, just cant find a meter that reads the small scale. :(  I dont think its acceptable to 'guess' the settings. so if its not set up precise can damage be done to the Dynamo?  ??? At this moment in time I'm not too bothered with the battery as its old, but dont want to damage a new one when the time comes to fork out!

Chapter Seven of Radco's "The Vintage Motorcyclists' Workshop." has good info on the MCR2 in addition to other regulators.
