All the seals I've seen are cork and fit snugly in the recess in the dynamo end. The seals are usually supplied as part of a gasket set or some dealers may sell them separately. The seal needs to be thick enough to prevent the dynamo end from rubbing against the inside of timing cover, and compressible enough to prevent grease from exiting the dynamo chain housing.

It's definately hide of some sort... the brown colour is HAIR... not rust.. hahaha *dunno2*
It looks like it works coz It holds the Dynamo a good couple of MM off the alloy case..
I just hope it doesnt get hot & start to smell like burnt road kill.. *lol*

Looks like fur felt, made from rabbit pelts. Same as they make Akubra hats.
A couple of mm might be a bit much. Check the sprockets are aligned right.
