Title: Heck Look at this worn chainwheel...
Post by: LJ. on 05.11. 2008 09:34
Just looking through my daily ebay items and what is generally offered up for sale and I come across this...

The link wont be around for too long so get a look while its still there, put a bid on if you want, don't think i'll bother though.

What caught my eye was this most amazing worn out chainwheel  *eek* I have to ask how the heck did the chain stay on in a condition like that ???? picture below....

man,. that's pretty bad.

but whoever won that auction got a steal!! I've seen cover sets alone like that go for over $100, and that has some really nice bits, the oil cooler cover on the outer cover, the cush drive...

man, how did I miss that auction  *conf*

;-)

Yes, some interesting bits. I thought the chainwheel inserts might be in good condition. As far as I know, those are hard to come by. I made my own during my rebuild.

so just out of curiousity, should those pads be loose in the chainwheel?  I had mine apart and realized a good bit of the slop was from them...

Snowbeard,

Well, I've replaced the inserts on a grand total of one chain wheel. However, I have not heard from anyone else that they made their own inserts (let the contradictions begin). In taking the old ones out and putting my home-made ones in, they were well fit and not loose in both cases, and my clutch appears to work perfectly, my limited exerience with other bikes notwithstanding.

By the way, nice video.

P.S. I asked in a previous email where you got your mufflers, do you mind sharing that info?

interesting, thanks for the info.  I expected they shouldn't wobble so much, but mine seems to work quite nicely now that I replaced that 1/4" spacer on the inner primary cover frame mount.  now my wobble doesn't let the basket rub the cover anymore. *eek*

I'd be happy to share my source for the mufflers, but unfortunately I don't have one, they just came on the bike.  I like them well enough, but they are rather loud, leaving me with ringing ears for a good while after riding her.  they are baffled, but...

oh, and thanks on the viddy too, I didn't think anyone had actually viewed it!  ;)
