I have a Fullriver HGL14-6CQ battery fitted to my A10. For the first time today I wanted to get at the terminals to connect the battery charger permanent connector to make charging easier in the future.
PLEASE could someone advise which part of the top of the battery detaches to get at the terminals?
There appears to be an "insert" looking down at the battery which I thought might prise out?
Then there is a join one fifth the way down the sides of the battery from the top.
There is just two sheaved leads coming out of the battery which presumably are connected to the connectors on the battery itself inside a cover. But how to get at them?
Apologies such a dumb question but as you might tell I have not encountered this design of battery on my other bikes.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter
A google search shows this, http://www.fullriver.com/products/admin/upfile/HGL14-6CQ.pdf
It has the leads permanently attached with a connecting plug ???
This other site shows one with out the leads attached, (more *????* *????* *ex* *ex*)
http://www.upsbatterycenter.ca/fullriver-hgl14-6cq-6v-13ah-battery
maybe you have the permanently attached type???

Thanks John
I also saw the first site you put up and this link is the battery I have fitted.
Would you, or anyone, know how this type of battery is used with a battery charger of the permanently connected type? Presumably it can be recharged?
Thanks for your help.
Peter
PS: The one I have fitted does not have the connector fitted, just two wires coming out, one going to earth and the other fused in line.

HI Peter
This battery looks as though its intended use is for UPS backup supplies
the data sheet gives a maximum charging rate of 2.8 amps which is less than the rate the bikes dynamo will attempt to stuff into it *????* *????*
I cant say whether or which if this battery is suited to use on your BSA ???????

Thanks again John.
Looks like it could be a new battery then?
I have only had the bike for a couple of months and it had been subject to a complete renovation before I got it.
Maybe a more suitable M/C battery is the answer.
Was hoping to avoid the expense but that's the way it goes.
Thanks

Peter,
Why not just try it and see how it performs?

the data sheet gives a maximum charging rate of 2.8 amps
The E3L can go above that, of course, but some momentarily higher charging would (very probably) not destroy that battery, would only maybe affect it's overall life. If it works fine now, just keep it and see how it performs, as trevinoz writes.
About the external charger, evaluate to make your own terminals\plug system, connected to some other parts of the bike's wiring?

In theory, as the battery voltage rises the charging current will decrease.

Hi
Thanks to you both.
It does work fine and I've been running the bike since I got it. Had some good rides. I suppose this has been charging up the battery, according to the ammeter anyway.
But from now on through to Spring it is being "put to bed" with only very minimal running. All the advice seems to say to put the battery on charge every couple of weeks at least over Winter. This is why I've come to this point now. As it stands I can't get to the terminals on the battery to charge it.
Is it possible to connect the charger to other parts of the wiring system to get a charge into the battery- as suggested above?
Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter
Yes, You can connect the charger to any earth point on the frame or engine and the live to any available /accessable point, brake light switch ?? hooter or ammeter (battery sides)
Make sure you check whether pos or neg earth first *eek*

These kind of batteries are designed to hold a charge for years, hence there use in UPS and alarm systems. With a bit of luck you shouldn't need to charge it at all apart from riding the bike.

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful contributions. As suggested think I'll see how it goes and, if necessary, charge from other available points.
