Title: on an A10 SR are colsibro valve guides worth the money
Post by: mikeb on 04.08. 2015 01:53
i know colsibro has less wear, longer lifespan and sounds super duper tho I'm bleeding money on a full rebuilt and wondering if they are actually a significantly better materials for valve guides on an A10 super rocket. they cost twice as much as bronze. do they influence what valves to buy? surprisingly i can't find any discussion of this on the forum.

any views/experience?

thanks

G'day Mike.
Never used colsibro guides but the blurb on them looks good.
I use these ones  http://valvetrain.kpmivalvetrain.com/viewitems/orcycle-valvetrain-components-bsa-a10-br-1962-1970/br-1962-to-1970-valve-guides-for-bsa-a10-1960-1970?
Cheers

Hi Mike,
My SR has colsibro guides with seals fitted on the inlets,
they run very tight clearances,
They have given no issues in 20K + miles
I have fitted out several other BSA + Tri engines with Colsibro guides from SRM and all these have been good

Cheap guides can suffer from lack of concentricity which means excess cutting of the valve seats

Theres a thread on valve guides / fitting on Britbike forum
John Healy's posts make interesting reading

Buy cheap buy twice *sad2*

Hi Mike,
The guides need to be modified to fit the seals,
Straight forward job with a lathe,
I seem to remember that the seals are late Triumph ? T140?

Yes, it is worth the extra cost.

I have a BSA A10 SR with RGS tuned engine, and have the valve conversion done by the cylinderheadshop i Wembley i 1996 !

Works very well !

No oil smoke of valve problems after 19 years after 30K use.
