Made a handy handle from offcuts. Will be useful in the upcoming build and once clamped on can't slip off like a spanner.
-
G'day Dan, long time no see on here.
Good tool. the old C spanner always slips off and the SRM nut is a little short so spanner often slips on it too.
Is this the motor in your 54 or a new one?
Cheers

Hi.Muskrat.Yes been busy doing silly things and riding non Bsa.
The answer is both yes and no.The new motor is another set [of modified] cases with my old crank and timing stuff with A65 top end in the old chassis.
-
Sounds like a good mod. The A65 has a better rocker set up but a pain taking the shaft out to do the head bolts. So that'll take her up to 750cc.
Would you like to start a new topic and show us how?
Cheers

Geez- I was always warned about what would happen if I let go of the crank handle starting the Vanguard..>unpretty<...!!!
-
Is this a windup --- ah it's the way I tell em

Now now Bill, even if this is a wind up there's no need to get cranky.......................

Made a handy handle from offcuts
danma that is one very neat and tidy bit of kit to have been made from offcuts, I think you do yourself some injustice describing it as such.
my home made bits tend to look like home made bits
-
It's pretty easy to make things like handles and such like with a mill ,but it's more fun to get adventurous and try something more challenging.
-
Is that a return path to drain excess oil from the cam housing or an extra oil feed for the cam on that bottom pic?
-
Oh you naughty boy. But I liiike it.
Definitely some thought and work has gone into that.
Makes my through bolted head and barrels look like a school kid job.
It would have to be called a Rocket Gold Lightning.
Cheers

Morris- the cam is one of the most loaded and wear prone parts of any engine so I don't think it's ever possible to over lubricate it.My thinking here was the std dribble past the followers seems to work ok for lobe lube so why not channel the over flow directly to the cam bushes rather than relying on splash for it to get there.I can't see it doing any harm.
The barrel is an ally big bore job from john Hill.Bored to 79mm {823cc].

*respect*
I need one of these to keep those big bore triumphs and nortons honest!

Made a nice shiny stainless pointer thingy from another off-cut and was very pleased
until I realised the handle would foul it......poo.
Made a nice shiny all new and improved up and over MK2 stainless pointer thingy from another off-cut and was pleased once more.
