A bit of an odd one on a A7SS. It sounds like the chain rubs on the inner primary side case if you lean the bike to the right while the engine is running. I think there is side play on the chain anyone else had this?

How is the clutch performing as it needed adjustment at the cable or via the gearbox adjuster ,just trying to eliminate the clutch having come loose . How much slack is there in the chain and finally if its adjusted properly and still catching the cover the chain must be buggered. Bob.

No loose clutch etc(stuck my finger in there could not move it side to side). I have had this bike for 27 years and I am still never sure about correct adjustment but there is no massive up and down, but if I push the chain sideways I can make it touch the inner case. Sounds buggered to me can't remember when I last changed it :!

G'day BSA500.
I'd say a combination of worn out chain and the chainwheel bearing getting a bit worn.
Does it still rub with the lever pulled in?
Cheers

Hi BSA500,
Best to get the outer chaincase off and take a look just in case the alloy ends up being chewed up inside, or even worse, if something inside is due to fly off causing major damage.......

Hi,
If the spacer (or washers) were left out of the chaincase to frame bottom rear mount
the chaincase can be distorted enough to cause the chain to rub!!!
Nothing for it but pull off the outer cover and have a look *conf2* *conf2*

No change with lever in or out
