Hi anjimehra

I think you might need some of our more metal knowledgeable members here to comment, because the rocker arrangement is steel shaft and cast rocker I'm thinking the bush needs to be similar, not bronze or such which might not be up to the pressure, I'll be as interested in an answer as you I think

If bronze bushes are good enough for con rods, they can can take it.

Is there sufficient metal around the hole in the rocker?

Sounds logical I suppose although some possible difference in the forces involved

It's common practice in various other engines.

Anji,

I'm confused. I just checked Ebay and saw no less than 13 rocker boxes with shafts and rockers with prices ranging from around $15 to $90.

Hi Richard
 3 problems with E Bay:
1) difficult to make payment from India in dollars/ foreign currency. Big rigmarole to get to use PayPal here for foreign payments
2) Sometimes the parts get stuck in customs for week, & one would probably have to pay import duty
3) whats the guarantee that the ones on ebay dont need bushing !!!!!!
Getting more & more difficult to restore bikes/ cars here nowadays. Was a time when people came to India to buy cheap spares. Alas! no more
Thinking might just put the old rockers back in & see the noise level. Atleast get the bike going.
Take care
Anji

Hello anjimehra!
Good luck in your search or bushing.  I am an old dodery pensioner now, have been dabbling around BSA's and riding for 51 years....I have not yet come across rockers flopping around on their shafts; A7's, A10's....Maybe lack of the correct lubrication in its past history?  Excellent grammar by the way.....

G'day Anji.
I'd throw it together but instead of the springs I use shims(washers) to locate the rockers to give 2 thou end float. This helps eliminate a bit of clatter and reduce stiction.
Cheers

Bushed rockers on the spindles are standard oem on AMC twins. Shouldn't be too difficult to have some oversized bushes machined to suit or have some made.

Thanks Muskrat. Will do as you suggested & see what happens.

Spot on about the lubrication. Lots of other evidence of insufficient/ lack of lub in other engine parts. Incidentally this is the same bike I rode back from UK in 1965. Had to sell it in 1969 to pay my club bill !!! & managed, by a stroke of luck, to buy her back in 1984. It had passed through 6 hands  & travelled all over India in the interim. Just stripped her down for a rebuild. attaching some photos of my sons 1952 Flash restored about 5 years back, & also of the Super Rocket. Use it regularly for long runs here.
Take care, Anji

I'm pretty sure I have extra rockers, shafts, boxes, etc. down in my shop. Don't know what shipping costs are to India, but if interested you can have a set for the cost of shipping. Let me know if interested.

That picture of riding across the salt flats in Turkey needs blowing up onto a big print and hanging on the wall. Epic  *wink2*

You should post that in the best pictures section.
