While sitting on the bike is the #1 cylinder the one on the left ?
-
I've never considered it ,could you poss explain why you ask ?
-
I would consider the timing case cylinder as number one but I dont have a clue why :)
-
Sorry I can't help with this but sure someone will , as I said it's not entered my head ,always used left right viewed from whatever end was stated ,cheers for now Bob

It will be useful to know when setting the firing order to 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

I cant see it makes a difference on a 360 degree engine
-
I would suppose that the clyd set to fire at tdc whilst aligning any timing marks for camshaft alinement could be number one ?
-
I consider the left (drive side) to be #1 same as any multi cylinder bike.
Cheers
-
I have decided to call both of mine number one to avoid any jealousy :)
Damn now its a single :(
-
#1 is next to the radiator ;) and #8 at the back by the gearbox
now normally the radiator is in front of the timing fan belts, which I guess suggests #1 is the T/S
On the groups triples the timing marks typically designate the T/S piston at TDC

Think I'd settle for the left or the right cylinder on a twin, and before you ask the left is as sitting on the bike or the side with the sidecar on it in UK *conf*
-
Bill,
I think it only works that way in the northern hemisphere.
Everything is @rse about up there?
cheers

Soooooo Olev, seeing as the water goes down the plughole in your neck of the woods the wrong way then everything needs to be reversed, is that where I'm going wrong *lol* *whistle* *doh*
