Title: Lucas 41SA switch in 62 SR
Post by: oldvet on 07.02. 2017 00:52
G'Day Guys,
About to fit a Headlight switch, 41SA with 54330576 top plate to my '62 SR switch panel.   It seems to small for the mount hole which is the right size and shape for a U39.
Is there a plate or insert for the SR to enable fitment??

Ta,
Al

Al,

I wasn't familiar with the part numbers, but on looking them up, I've been of the opinion that U39 is the right switch (that's what I have). I don't recall seeing the 41SA used in place of the U39, but others may say quite the opposite

If you have the independent headlight (not the nacelle) you need the U39 switch which is the standard switch fitted to nearly everything, pre-nacelle, including Gold Stars. There was a special switch panel used on the RGS which has a smaller hole for the 41SA switch. I don't think the special switch panel was ever used as standard on the SR but others may know better.

Thanks for that input.  I think you may well be correct as the bike had the original switch panel and a damaged 41SA fitted by means not manufacturer approved.  In the meantime I'll fit the U39 and we shall have light thanks to an Alton 12 volt conversion and a Lucas flamethrower.

41SA is correct for all, RGS & Super Rocket alike. U39 was last used in the panel about 1959.
Use the U39 or modify your panel to suit. Genuine panels are hard to find.
