Title: Transfers
Post by: RoyC on 29.03. 2017 11:41
I've got my painted parts back, the next job is to scotch pad the oil tank, tool box and rear number plate, apply the transfers then send it all back for a final coat of clear lacquer.
Question  -  I am thinking of cutting off the word minimum and just using oil level. How far down from the top of the tank should the oil level be ?
I would appreciate any input.

I did that

I've just gone and measured my transfer; it's 70mm down from the top of the oil tank, (not the filler neck)

Don't see the point in cutting off the word minimum not aware that anybody really takes notice of it anyway. I just look in the tank and if needed top up until maybe 1/4 to 3/8 below the hole in the return pipe. Just went out and checked mine it is 50mm from top of the tank any lower and would not look right would be too close to the piled arms transfer.

I don't have the Piled Arms transfer on my Plunger tank.

Looking at the attached BSA illustration of the early sprung frame model the transfer is lower than I have it at about halfway down the tank.

Ah, just checked on your posts and it looks like you have a swinging arm model so ignore me prattling on about plunger details.  *roll*

Photo from 1956 Shooting Star road test.

I suspect that they were fitted free hand so unlikely they were all in the same position.

.

I notice that only says 'oil level'
I have printed off the picture and will use it to lay out my oil tank.

Thank you to all for the input.

I've scaled the picture and get the following.

By the way - you can buy 'oil level' transfers without the 'minimum'.  I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place I got mine but they were cheap, quick and really good quality.  Will pop up a name if I can find it.

There is a T shirt getting around in the BSA club that looked like the above mentioned decal, but actually said 'Minimum Beer level'  *beer*
