While not wishing to set off an "oil" type of thread, would it be ok to run a plastic tube from the breather hole and has anyone done it?

Yep- better than any oil on the road, or your tyre. I run it and the oil tank breather into a small clear juice bottle with the lid on (so it doesn't fill with water), but holes punched in to let it breathe- have it stashed low behind the gearbox (Plunger mod.)

The parts books show a metal pipe (67 0922 in photo dont worry about the clip) to which you attach a length of plastic tubing.
My A10 uses a bit of curved copper pipe in the hole with a length of plastic tube leading to underneath the bike. At one time I did lead it to discharge onto the rear chain but there was not enough oil to be useful
I dont see more than the odd drop of oil after a hard run.
Using a pipe certainly helps to distinguish between sources of oil leaks.

*thanks* I'm going to do it!
