Title: International West Kent Run
Post by: tommo903 on 26.07. 2017 22:32
I've been lucky enough to book a place on the IWKR in a little over a week  *smile*...I've known of this event for many years but for whatever reason, have never attended before. I'll be riding my A7SS but will also take my Starfire to use for one or two of the other ride-outs.
Just wondered if anyone else from this forum will also be going? Obviously, I'll be keeping a look-out for other A7/A10s over the weekend, but if you see me first, please come and say hi.

Cheers, Steve

I can't do it but it seems entries are closed anyway.

You're right GB, I think all the places go within a few days of entries being open, which was months ago.
I've only done a few test rides on my A7, so keeping fingers crossed that we have a trouble free 100 miles!

On the main show field, make your way to the far left hand corner and you'll find the BSA Owners Club stand.

Be plenty of BSA's there.

Say hello to Malc who organises it for me

Great photos of interesting machines. Thanks.
I'm going to upload photos from last weekends BSAOC Hampshire camp soon. They will not be so exotic as some of those ones!

This show is the reason I got in to owning and riding a classic bike. We have been going to it for many years, and as we tend to walk down from home (half a mile).
last year I said to my Wife. "I'd quite like to own an old British bike at some point!"
To which she replied, "Yeah why don't you?"
7 days later I had my Bezza  ;)

The IWKR is the best classic bike show I have been too. (Not done Too many though ;)) and is well worth the effort to visit, going on the run is not easy as I believe there is a very long waiting list for a place.

One of the best shows was when John Surtees brought some of his collection and told some great storys to the crowd.
They had a Nice Bill Ivy tribute in the main tent this year.

Apart from me, did anyone else attend the International West Kent Run over the weekend? I did see one or two A10s parked up at during the coffee and lunch stops on the main ride (Saturday), but didn't get to see the owners. It was very busy but a great weekend.

I would normally take a bike or two in a van but decided to save some cash this year and rode my A7SS there instead (wife took the car along with camping gear!). 80 miles each way of mainly M25/M20 wasn't the greatest but the bike performed well. I kept an eye on the oil level over the weekend and did need top up a little a couple of times...it's useful doing a longer run occasionally as it makes you notice such things!

I was there on the Empire Star,

Thursday evening was not really enjoyable up to the meeting point, all through the heavy traffic and stop after stop,

Friday was a very short run, only about 35 miles, heat was obnoxious at 35 degrees or more.

The West Kent Run on Saturday was 90 excellent mixed miles and very easy to navigate, even around a road closure!. A lot of effort had gone into the run!

Sunday's show I felt I'd had enough of the heat and bailed out early.
