Title: Magneto
Post by: Jowan on 09.09. 2017 18:07
Last  week i spent  half an hour in a  cornish layby trying  to start my  55 A7 SS  - bump starting  it down through  a field with no joy and a long slow push back up to the  road! Popular thinking is the mag playing up  on warm starting. Can anyone recommend  a good mag repair outfit? I see Andrew at Priory  is  not  opening his  workshop until next month,

Dont do what guys do here in America.

We seem to be really good at taking them apart, breaking one side of the slip ring off, then stuffing the whole works into cigar boxes and selling them at garage sales.

I own a couple of these "White Owl" magnetos.  *eek*

SRM, Brightspark etc.

Are you 100 % sure the mag slipring, pick-up eath brush etc. is 100%

I just rebuild my mag. with new bearings isolator ring gasket and main gasket.
Shim packet and bearings from Bright spark..

If your condenser i dead, fit a modern brightspark item..

I found the pick up brushes sticking in the pick ups housing..
and end play of bearings was wat out of max.

I had same a few months ago; cleaned slip-ring several times, checked timing, did all the adjustments and checks, but ultimately needed a rebuild. Now it runs better than ever (even though it had been rebuilt just over 10K miles ago)
