Title: A question for the Australian members
Post by: Greybeard on 13.11. 2017 14:24
Very much Off topic:

This question has been raised because of the UK lady who was arrested in Egypt with a large quantity of, (prescription) pain killers in her luggage.

I have friends who are visiting Australia for a month over Christmas. They need to take pain killers that are over-the-counter drugs here in the UK; Paracetomol and Ibroprofin. They will be needing a lot of these tablets for their stay. Will they have a problem taking the pills through Oz customs? Can both of those tablets be bought in Oz without any problems?

ITHANKYOU!

G'day GB.
Should be OK but I wouldn't risk it. I don't know for sure.
Both and a mix of the two can be bought over the counter at a Chemist or even in a supermarket/corner store.
If they need stronger I have a good stash  *whistle*.
Cheers

as a kiwi, how would anyone cope with Aus without pain killers?  *eek*
i travel with them in small quantities to aus (even the US) so far without trouble.

if in doubt/concerned buy there or see your GP and get a letter with them listed, even if they are OTC.

Thanks fella's. I've advised my friends to take only enough pills to get them there, possibly get a doctor's note to prove the tablets are for their personal use, then buy tablets locally. I've been told that those drugs may have different brand names in Oz. A Pharmacist could advise.

BTW: Whenever I use the abbreviation 'Oz' I wonder if I'm committing a faux par. Is it OK to use it?

That would be a fox's paw here in OZ.
