Title: Bad timing for not starting. Bad timing?

Last week, I finally got my daughter to go pillion on a short ride. Bike started fine and I was proud to have her on the back and proud to show her what the bike could do.

This week it won't start. Good compression, spark present, fuel in tank, tank venting (tickler runs), clean pilot jet and other obvious stuff seems OK. Thinking of stuff like, timing moved, bad fuel (but same fuel as last week), weak spark, damaged ATD gear, etc. Oh, I'll eventully work it out, but not today, and today was 57 deg. F on December 3rd in Chicago and likely the last rideable day until March, at least. That's the real "bad timing."

Well, there WAS spark. Now, not so much (meaning none). Putting aside cleaning the slip ring, pulling the mag, etc. for other non-bike reponsibilites. Winter is long.

Try new plugs.

Do the contact breaker points open and shut when you turn the engine?

Are they oily, dirty or burnt?

I was.wondering if the stress of being two-up with a could have some thing to do with it. Could it? Neither myself nor my daughter are not petite.

 I cannot see two up having anything to do with this.

 The magneto is end of gear train, and has no more stress 2 up with a side car and trailer, than it does solo.

 Unless its just co-incidence and the magneto pooped the bed at exactly the wrong time, its got to be something else.

 Maybe the kill switch is grounding out, motor might have got warmer than normal and maybe some insulation melted a little. Never happen before because you were always solo... *conf*

I didn't think it would be related to two-up either, but figured I would ask on the off chance of bent pushrod or something. Compression is good.

Will keep looking and sharing the grief.
