Title: Got snow?
Post by: Greybeard on 08.12. 2017 23:11
I've returned home from Londinium to find a dusting of the white stuff. Anyone else got snow?

Greetings from "nearly Cote D'azur", France. Up in the mountains here (40 km from Nice) got heavy snowfall, approx 35 cm during one night. It's still there. I like it (...once car and roads were cleared).

No snow in Vancouver so far, in fact the weather is decent for riding at the moment. Nothing but sunshine and relatively warm ( for December) daytime temps approaching 50 f.
Lots of that new liquid salt on the roads, so forget the riding idea.
It might as well snow!

Got about an inch and a half last night. Not enough to get out the snow blower, but more than I want to shovel.

More expected Sunday night and maybe Wednesday.

Woke up to a good covering this morning; about 2 inches, (50mm) and it's still coming down. Snow is not common in the south of Britain these days so it's a novelty.

No snow here in this part of Catalunya, but been very cold for the last two weeks or so, frost every night bar last night. roads salted so no bike riding until thats all gone.
Very cloudy today, no sun at all, so generator on to top up my batteries-- I'm on solar electricity, no sun means charging batteries for using electricity from the inverter. 240volts max 2.8 kws.

We had 3 or 4 inches here in mid-Essex yesterday (Sunday). Went out on my V50 to meet up with some chums for a late lunch at a pub out in the sticks and it was quite tricky going. Hot grips.

and it definitely wasn't, had quite a job keeping the cars nose pointing in the right direction, once on the A1 we were fine except for the screen washer which had frozen and never thawed out at all there and back so several stops to clean the screen, the missus would insist I had let the thing run dry, not so I had topped it up just last week, and here the lesson to be learned , never again use ready mixed screen wash !!! it's obviously not up to winter work

So how about "had a job getting the car to give a straight delivery, tracks and the snow showed other drivers throwing googlies"

I think they did understand; it's just references to screenwash freezing and cars not going in a straight line must be foreign to them.

It's been white here on Sunday, but now it's just shitty wet and foggy. But other parts of Switzerland get a good load of white material...
Stay safe

My only visit to England / Scotland was when I was about 7 years old... I remember it being windy but beautiful.
Visiting the Isles again (on my A10 of course) is one project for the future (if my family allows it)

Thanks you guys In the U K for taking the snow that we usually get here in Seattle Washington U S of A.  Normally by now we have between 2 to 3 inches of the crap, it sure is pretty for picture taking,
However the Idiot drivers do not know how to drive in it.  I really love the guy that makes a run for the hill to make it to the top, then decides to slow down and stop in the middle of the hill, and I am right behind him the A-hole ! !

"So thanks again you fellas who never get snow for taking ours "

Picked the wrong day to organise taking my aged folding caravan back to its makers in North Norfolk from Dover for a refurb.

Had Xmas lunch booked and paid for on the North Norfolk Light Railway.

Left early due to the forecast and got as far as Stanstead on the M11 with the traction control light flashing too much and pulled into the services to wait three hours for the snow to ease, missed my lunch!

My son, his wife and two kids drove home from his sisters in London to Warwick on Sunday. That's about 100 miles. The journey normally takes two and half hours but this time it took five hours! They turned off for a break at Oxford motorway services but it took two hours to get into a parking bay!

It was 41° C here yesterday but I still got out for a ride, went down to the coast.

I'm 61 years old and have never seen snow and I think I will keep it that way, cant imagine how cold it must be.

Chicago has been +/-  10 from 0 F for abought two weeks. It's about to warm into 40s. It will feel like spring. I can rell you that the dogs are reluctant at -10.

Just realized that there is no need to add "C" or "F" when you say "-40", becuase they are equal.
