Title: Mystery single/solo seat, ID please...........
Post by: Sluggo on 13.07. 2018 23:30
Technically at least part of this is related to my BSA Goldstar but could interchange with an A10 so hopefully the mods are not cross with me.

Shown is 2 seats,  One, the larger and black metal base is from my 1956 BSA Goldstar DB scrambler-race bike.
Now, I checked and appears it COULD fit on a A10 Scrambler swing arm bike as well.

Second is a mystery solo style seat I am perplexed on and appreciate any help in ID'ing it or its application

My questions are as follows..:

A) Does the Goldie seat look original or factory?
B) Or Does the Goldie seat appear a replica???  Any way to tell???

C) the second seat has either alloy or galvanized tin base.  It has a similar but DIFFERENT nose piece front mount as the Goldie seat.  The rear mounts do not line up to BSA Swing arm preunit or Unit twin frames, or Preunit singles.  It comes close to a A50/A65 mount but the opening at the front mount does not quite fit, and the rear mounts are close but narrower than A50/A65 tabs. (it COULD be made to work on a Unit twin with some work IOW)  It COULD be made to work with a unit single BSA but same issue with front mount and nothing is even close for rear mounts.  It could be used with adapters

D) So, any idea what this seat is off of or would be used on??  (I also compared to Matchless Norton and Triumph frames and does not seem to match anything that I can tell.)

Sluggo,

Did you ever have an AMF Harley floating around there? I swear mine had the same seat on it when I was a kid. No idea if the seat was a repop or what. Bike was a 125.

I am/was convinced it was British in Origin, but its POSSIBLE!    I have bought up collections from all sorts of people and sources so anything is possible.

I can be proved wrong but was of the opinion that its A) A repop sold by XYZ shop or B) Thats the same seat as a Villiers/James/DOT  Trials bike and was fitted in these years....
But it COULD be some AMF product. (Fine manufacturers of Tennis rackets, swim fins and leisure products)

Are you going to the Rabers auction? That's sad business right there.

I am inclined to go, I am off work right now so COULD.. I also have a place to stay 15-20 minutes from the location (With pool, and hot tub)  So I intend to go, the problem is A) Blazing heat this time of year and especially driving there thru the furnace zone ( From Grants pass to San Jose is a cooker) best to travel at night  B) Money.

The big speculation will the millionaires show up to secure the inventory??  I am hoping ANOTHER shop buys it lock stock and barrel and relocates it to a more viable location.  The reason for shutting down the shop is Bay Area economics, NOT the viability of a  vintage Brit bike shop.  Its been successful and CAN be successful but its insane whats going on in the bay area.  No one can afford to live there, and running a business is prohibitively expensive.  Anyone working there has between minimum an hour commute each direction and more commonly 2-3hr commute each direction.

Portland Oregon is headed the Same direction and Seattle/Tacoma as well.

So, I am trying to downsize so large purchases are counterproductive,,I just need odds and ends to complete my projects.  NOT buying shipping containers full of parts (I Have done that in the past)  But
#1) They are my friends, I dearly love them there Great people.  I want to support them and let them know how much many of us appreciate them  (Might take cookies, I often do on roadtrips, My wifes cooking is famous)
#2) Experience and document a epic moment in history
#3) Get in on deals possibly or unload some of my stuff  (once a hoarder-always a hoarder) but it could be an excellent opportunity to SELL some of my stuff as well.

(Stuff in Calif tends to sell WELL ABOVE other areas)
