Title: Welding on BSA's ?
Post by: LJ. on 08.08. 2018 14:48
Okay... I'm not a welder but I've just bought one of these 'Inverter' Arch welders because a friend reckons it'll be a doddle to use. (Let's hope so!)

Is there anything I should disconnect on the bike? for example the battery, original regulator? can any harm be done if no disconnections are made? I plan to weld...If I can!  *doubt* some extra high feet on the worn centre stand on the B33. Also the side stand needs a weld to stop it rotating on the frame.

And how easy is an 'Inverter' arch welder to use for a complete newbie?

Hi LJ,
It all depends on the quality of the welder and the welding plant *lol* *????*
Practice and practice on lots of scrap  pieces,
Why not remove the stand to add the weld?
An other thing that will fu*k up welds is dirt and paint
Attach the earth as near to the welding site as possible
I would disconnect any electronic components just to be on the safe side

 KP I feel you having a lend here, but the short story;

..... when I did my aforementioned misdemeanor, I knew full well about isolating the job from the vehicle, but somehow had a massive brain fart and because I was welding a steel beam not part of the 'tilly *bright idea* I had it supported by the edge of the tray.... *bash*....
