Quick question...1951, did the nearside (primary side) centre stand leg have a foot sticking out from under the silencer to get your foot on and push it down?

If it's the same as my '55 bike, yes.

I was hoping you weren't going to say that GB... *sad2*

Yes they should but mine has been ground off through exuberant cornering. Makes getting it up difficult. *shh*
Cheers

Actually 1951 didnt have the "tang", I believe that was introduced in 1953. Both stands are identical otherwise so you could look for a later stand or maybe weld a tang onto yours.

Thanks Brian. Nearing completion I've noticed that just the tip of the stand foot pokes out under the silencer, and though I could get the tip of my boot on it it's inevitably going to leave burnt rubber marks on the silencer. Welding a new tip on is the ultimate solution but I just wondered whether the tip was never there, worn off or just sawn off my Mr Bodge in the past.
I'll try and run the bike for a while and then when the inevitable remedial tasks need doing post-rebuild I'll do it then.

And check the mufflers as there should be a cut away for the stand leg to sit in.
